I have a ticket, LHR-IAD-LHR for October, K out and Z back and it looks like (and I won't bore you all with the complicated reasons!) I may not be able to use the ticket as planned (not for reasons of death or health etc).

What are likely to be my options (if any) for changing the ticket???

Thanks as always...

Only if you upgrade to a flexible fare, which will hurt [B)].

yep, a lot , and then if you cancel, you'll only receive the upgrade part refunded.

With the non-flexible fares, if you cancel you will only get the taxes etc. back. Also, no name changes are allowed.

Your other option is the insurance route.

And you can't just go to a D with that Z leg - D's aren't flexible on date either. You have to go to a full J1 which is VERY ouch.

Sorry.

In my experience of trying to change Z fares (which is a lot recently) I have been told I can but I would need to upgrade to the next availible fare class which in my case was R one time and D the next but it all depends on availibity. If you could upgrade the K to Upper say Z and the Z to R it may come out a bit more but reasonable.

Just wanted to add that the best thing to do will be to call the Premier team. Whilst my final outcome was not what I wanted they worked nearly the whole morning one day to try and help me out. Hope you get something sorted. I feel your pain [xx(].

I'm not an expert, I'm *just* a leisure traveller lol, but wanted to post my experience of changing a z fare. I had booked my parents 2 K fares but couldn't get them on my flight, so we would be flying on the same day but different flights, even thought we were in different cabins anyway. I'm also just a silver, so no gold privileges or extra weight, etc. I politely asked if it was possible I could change my flight to my parents flight so we could all be on the same flight, and how much it would cost me to do that. After 2 minutes on hold I was advised as a one-off gesture, despite not having a flexible fare, Virgin would move me onto the later flight at no cost. Obviously it was the same day of departure, just a different flight but nevertheless I was very happy.

It probably suited them to do that as well, if they may have had overbooking on your originally ticketed flight. They may have been gearing up for volunteers to take a later flight, so you helped them out.

The fact that you couldn't book your parents onto the same flight as you hints strongly that your original flight was heavily loaded.

When a flight is overbooked but with insufficient no-shows, and the airline is looking for people to volunteer to change their travel plans, pretty much anything goes.

If this was the case, both you and Virgin won on your particular deal - you got the flight you wanted, and they didn't have to pay you a bribe (or IDB compensation) to get a different flight!

Didn't they also change one v-flyers z tickets too? Can't remember who and I'm not going to guess but it helped that VS had also cancelled their original flight so they were able to go to VS and say - 'it would help us both out if you did this change ...'

So obviously it does happen but not on a regular basis and there has to be something in it for VS too. Plus am sure they don't want to publicise it !

That makes sense Mike, as it happened the later flight was practically empty in PE and we had some spare seats in UC too. Either way, I was more than happy [:D]

Same day, same route changes are easier to achieve.

Different day or route, nope, without paying or extreme circumstances.
