I'm sorry that I'm posting this here and not in the correct forum, but I'm a poor Alevel student who can't afford a membership just yet! Anyway...

After bugging my dad for about six weeks, he's finally called up the travel agent to get me our Virgin Atlantic booking reference so that I can log in to the 'Manage Your Flight' section on the VS website. However, it won't work :( So I was wondering if I had something wrong?

Booking ref: M96H59

Is this how a booking ref should look? I've always used my eticket number to login so I'm not sure.

My second issue is...we're flying to SFO but the inbound flight is from LAX...however, the seats we've been booked are 59 ABCD. I thought there wasn't a B, I thought it was ACDE etc. Could anyone enlighten me on this?

Sorry if these seem like extremely silly questions, but I'm genuinely confused and would like this resolved.

Thanks in advance!

The booking number looks like a correct format.

I think if you have booked through a Travel Agent, annoyingly you can't access your booking on the Virgin Atlantic site until the tickets have been issued - so I guess around 3 weeks before you fly.

Ah ok, that is annoying but thank you for your swift response. It does say on the website that it may not work until tickets have been confirmed but I thought that might be ok because the holiday is all paid for. Thank you again. Now i just need to work out this seating stuff :)

Regarding the seats, it could be that it's a 747 on that day. Try a dummy booking for the same flights, and select the flight number. It will tell you the plane type currently assigned to fly.

I've looke and it says it's an Airbus A340-600 like usual so...that's why I am lost as to why I've been told these are the seats we have been assigned. I know that it'll all be ok once we hit the airport but I usually like to know in advance what we've been given.

Why not just give VS a call to clarify. Your outbound will be on a 747, so those seat numbers work for that part, although LAX is almost always operated by a A346 and therefore you are correct there is no B, but a quick call to VS direct should be able to clear everything up.

You might also want to double check that the reference is the VS reference rather than (say) a Viewtrip Reference. Both seem to have the same 6 character format. I know that I received both from my friendly and efficient travel agent (hello Jake). Since the end of May I have been able to assign seats for a flight in October.

I don't recall ever having a booking ref. with four numbers and two letters - usually the other way around or just one number. I'd check again?

Try entering that booking ref into either checkmytrip.com (Amadeus reservation system) or viewtrip.com (Galileo reservation system) as that reference number could just be the travel agents booking reference. You will also need your surname as well in both cases.

If you can access the booking using either one of these, you might be able to get your VS booking reference from within them.

I managed to get in on itinery on viewtrip.com. Does this mean the booking ref isn't the VS one? It has a number:

Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. Confirmation Number: E9SST1

However, this wont work on the VS site. Hmm. However, viewtrip.com has told me that my seats are 58 A&C and 59 A&C so at least I know the seats on the inbound trip are ok.

Not sure it's a good idea to publish your reference numbers in full on here?
