Trying to book my dad an UC flight to PVG for an upcoming business trip in October. Last week we were looking at a 1.9K fare, yesterday 2.2K, today 2.7K. Meanwhile, Expertflyer is showing the flight wiiiide open with 9s in every class. So, book now before it goes up again, or hang on in the hope that fares might dip below the 2 grand mark...?

That's some movement, not explained by Zs, Rs, and Ds etc. Was it still on sale last week (was it ever?) - try ringing FC for a run down?

1900 does sound like a sale fare. When the bitches were booking flights to PVG there was a sale on and Z fares were ~1760 IIRC.

Thanks,
Sarah

Give it a couple of days, I have seen this before, what happens is you get someone putting 24 hour holds on the flights, that makes the whole pricing thing go a little nuts, it will drive up the price for a couple of days, not helped by people booking at the higher prices, see where I am going with that, two - four days later the holds are released and the price drops back down.

Thanks for the kind advice. Think I'll leave it a couple of days and see what happens. Still showing as 9 on Zs, so I don't think I'm risking my hand too much (may this post not come back to bite me on the arse afore the week is out..).

Well if the price doesn't come down, put him on a different carrier [:0]

I'm also having a few issues with flights to PVG as for Easter 2010 it's coming out at 1,800 each for economy!! Virgin say that this is because they have yet to release the lower fare codes...

Next year is Expo2010 in Shanghai so that may affect availability of cheaper tickets.

BA is around 1,400 for two as opposed to 1,800 each. Emirates is c 850 for two (via Dubai).

Oddly there is good reward seat availability (for school hols) on Virgin.

October being 'conference season' I would expect prices to be high (and climb)

Even so, the flights I'm looking at are empty at present. That's what confusing me (doesn't take much).

Dunno - but maybe (just a maybe) 'they' know all about the conferences that traditionaly take place then and pax have yet to book - I normally book a couple of days to a week out and not before.

One other point to add, traditionally this has been a 3 carrier route with MU, BA and VS plying it. Since March, MU haven given up until at least next Spring so perhaps that is adding pressure. Saying that I would've thought it would be more on Y class as their J really wouldn't trouble BA or VS.
