Just a quick update on this - VS have come up with a good re-route to Tampa via Washington, again in PE which we're pretty pleased with. The only decision now is up to us to decide whether we want to cancel it and put the money towards next year's trip or two.

That's a pretty good option [y].

US actually did agree to swap my cheap Y bucket to the following day at no cost when i explained VS had cancelled my flight and we may have to go a day later [^] way to go US !!!!

However in the end Mrs Chumba has managed to get the day off from work so we can go the same day on the earlier flight so actually am happy as the cancellation has gotten us more time in IAD.

Lots of thanks to the premier team who sorted it all out for me, (even giving me a letter for Mrs Chumbas work) to say they had cancelled the flight and rescheduled it so she could get the day off. [y] I have dropped them a line for the staff recognition. And thanks to US for being very accomodating and flexible [:D]

Strangly, I have found United and other US airlines, far more flexible when it comes to changing tickets, than Virgin and BA. Yesterday Emirates would have changed me onto their A380 from Dubai, had there been space, despite having a fairly cheap J ticket.

Just to update we've accepted the offer they gave us... VS21 to Washington, connecting to Tampa arriving 1 hour later than the original plan.
