Yes have a look at the seat ratings as well as some of the individual trip reports for VS19/20 as these often comment on invidivual seats.

There are also comments on both http://www.seatguru.com and http://www.seatexpert.com

Even though you say you are not that bothered about noise I'd personally avoid sitting near the toilets and the galleys (rows 19/20 on the main deck and rows 1 and 11 on the upper deck)- its not always so much the noise (and smells) but people walking past and standing near your suite.

Others find the bar area can bother them but its hardly like chucking out time !

BTW if you choose 12 A or K don't look for the overhead locker - there isn't one - unless you want to entertain the crew by looking for it - see this excellent TR for a detailed explanation!

Yes more seats generally become available when OLCI opens, the only exception being exit and bulkhead rows which can only be allocated at the airport.

Another vote for the A zone from me, the feeling of space is great and its still close enough to the bar, but far enough to not be disturbed if you want a bit of peace, which during a 12 hour flight is likely at some point.

Go to the bar, get really pissed, immigration becomes a doddle [:w].

Otherwise enjoy [y].

I also like the A zone (very front on the main deck, it's more spacious) - and my favourite seats are 19A or 19K because there's only one neighbour and a lovely big ledge for stuff.

And, don't forget the clubhouse at LHR on the return, plan plenty of time and get online to book a treatment now!

I like being upstairs on the LHR 747. Fave seats are 3,4,5 K (exactly the same as my favourite seats on the airbus).

Based on this and the seat advice web sites I've went for 19A on the LHR-SFO sector and 5K on the SFO-LHR.

Can't wait all my previous Long Haul flying has been in Y so looking forward to this one.

I quite like 19A/K (having sat in both) as you are in A zone and get to see what is going on around you.
