Hi all. Just tried to check in online for tomorrow's flight and I got the following message:

'Sorry we are unable to continue with your Check In. Please go to the Virgin Atlantic Tickets and Support Desk for assistance at the airport.' [?]

We have always checked in online without problems before so should not be because of watch lists etc but am concerned that it is telling us to go to the ticket and support desk rather than just to normal check in - should I be worried or is this quite normal?

PS need to also check in for our MEX connecting flight online - if we do this from the LHR clubhouse in the morning are there any facilities there for printing the boarding cards?

Many thanks

Sounds to me like the flight is either over full or a change of aircraft type is in the offing.

Another possibility is that you have changed your ticket (e.g. upgrade with miles) in which case you can't check in until paying any additional tax at the airport.

Very odd - flight is still on sale including through codeshares (and in all classes) so I assume not over full and current flight plans still show flight listed as a 747 and we are flying on Zs. Oh well, we leave shortly for the Sofitel but are parking at Valet at T3 so will pop into the VS desk later today and hopefully get it sorted.

Thanks both.

Maybe your seats have been removed to accommodate Gordon Browns Office [}:)]

As Parliament is in its Summer recess this is highly unlikely - plus the PM will have an entire plane for His (and His office) use which inclused the hordes of press that now accompany him.

and here was me thinking that as the OP posted in 'Ask a guru' rather than off topic she wanted a reasonable answer - silly me

Back to OP: It is looking more like an aircraft change. Let us know what transpires when you get to the airport.

All the best,

This happened to me when I tried to book us in for our Dubai flight. As we were connecting from Manchester, and just for a bit of piece of mind I tried to phone VA but was really given the run around - I was even told at one point it was a security issue and either myself and/or my partner would not be permitted to travel!!!!!!!!

Anyway, after a sleepless night we managed to check in fine at the airport - no aircraft change or anything so I just put it down to one of those annoying things that come to try us.............

Thanks all - you'll forgive the paranoia but this flight is hopefully third time lucky - last one in May cancelled because of swine flu. Re-scheduled for early Sept but that flight was cancelled too (both on direct charters) so decided to try scheduled via MIA this time and figured with our luck so far we'd end up with a hurricane this week but so far so good on that score!

Will let you know ....

Thanks again

The availability in the GDS shows it booked for a 744, and the seatmap is still that of a 744.

Maybe there is a pending aircraft swap in the system, but right now it still looks 'normal'.

It may be something else such as ESTA status, or missing APIS information?

I know the OP is in transit to MEX, but if they are travelling under the VWP (the green I94W form) there will still be a requirement to have an ESTA in place, and to complete the APIS info to show as being in transit to another country.

Shelly, I'm assuming you have a valid ESTA?

Thanks Mike and yes, have ESTA and have supplied all API online.

Just back from T3 where dropped car off and VS rep insists all ok - no problems with our booking, seats are still reserved as we originally reserved and she assumes there must be a temporary internet problem but having just got back to the Sofitel and tried again, still getting the same message.

Oh well, am sure all will be fine in the morning - will just arrive a little earlier than had planned just to be certain.

Many thanks again!
