Is what we are going to have to learn.

Well the OH and I have been living here in Melbourne now for just over 3 years and found out yesterday that our Permanent Residency Visas had been granted. [:D][y]

The process took all of 2 days! Well not exactly... read on at your peril.

My employer agreed to sponsor us back in March and their side of the application was processed and agreed back then. But until July this year this type of visa did not allow a same sex partner to be included as a spouse. Australia is such a progressive country - now!

This change was annouced in April so we decided to delay our personal submission until then. This was done on July 8. I received a receipt for the fee on Tuesday (25/08) saying a case officer had not been appointed - likley to happen next week - and all being well should hear back within 5 months.

So it was quite a shock yesterday when I get an email saying all is approved.

Much as I love good old Blighty I don't want to live there.

So from your Melbourne correspondent I bid you G'day. However I will NEVER eat Vegemite [:$].

Just need VS to start flying out of MEL (with their own metal and not as a codeshare) - and preferably to HKG - it is such a bind having to go to SYD first.

If any of you esteemed V-Flyers are ever in the fair city of Melbourne give me a shout.

Congrats on your permanent visa. How long does it take to become an Aussie, 4 years?

Enjoy Melbourne, I can't wait to be heading home for good at the end of the year.

Thanks Dominic.
Only another year to go and we can apply for citizenship.
Good luck with your move back home.
