Hi everyone,

Just got a call from qantas informing me that they have downgraded the aircraft that i am due to fly out on the 3rd september to sydney and have transferred me to a british airways flight instead. Does anyone know what aircraft they might have downgraded it to? or why they have done this>

many thanks

If it is BA then it will be a 747 on this route.

Perhaps you had been booked on a Qantas A380 ? It is debatable if I would call it a 'downgrade' - rather a change of aircraft unless your class has been downgraded from e.g. F to J.

BA also fly a B777 to SYD too, so it could be something to do with that? I would be checking that they haven't downgraded your class either.

Edit - BA have the following flights BA15 - B777 and BA9 - B744
Qantas only have the QF32 - B744 showing for tomorrows flight.

What class are you in booked in?
The BA aircraft could be either a 747 via BKK or 777/747 via SIN.Both aircraft have the same seating in different configurations,I'm in a minority but I prefer the 777 in F,CW I would take the 747 on the upper deck, having said that with NGCW the 777 was fine for a recent trip to SYD.

OMG they are still flying the 777 to Syd then ? I thought they had switched it back - you live and learn [:)]

I was offered it once in 2006 (in F) but declined and went on the 747 and have done ever since. Somehow feel more comfortable on such a long flight.

Yes still operating the B777, not too sure I would like to fly it that long! Silly but prefer 4 engines just in case!

ANZ operates there LHR-HKG-AKL on B777!

The B777 is a very capable aircraft, and expect to see more of it on these sort of missions.

That said, I do still have a very big softspot for the 747-400 and will often try to fly on that in preference to other types.

Before anyone brings up the overwater/overland argument here, I'd also like to note that in most cases, extended long range flying over isolated areas of China, Russia and Africa are little different than flying over water in terms of places available to land should there be issues.

In most cases, quad, triple or twin engined, it's usually preferable to try and continue rather than face an emergency landing in one of these locations.

As this has nothing to do with VS, I will move the topic to the correct forum.

QF32 is normally operated by the 380, it looks like this has been changed to a 747 on the 3rd (back to a 380 on the 4th).

So it might be seen as a downgrade as the 380 has desireable J & F cabins (see other posts on here about the inability to use VS miles for J seats on the 380)

Regards
RedV

PS - if you do get a 777 July flight movements show 100% NGCW and AVOD on the BA15

I absolutely love how qf-flyer can join this forum (ostensibly a Virgin forum), ask a question that has nothing to do with VS, and get a whole bunch of very well informed replies from folks who clearly have bothered to go the extra yard and check into their facts before replying ... why would anyone bother calling an airline customer service rep anymore? Wholeheartedly agree with you MarkedMan [y]

.& why would one bother going to another Frequent Traveller forum, where posters are regularly attacked & lambasted for having the audacity to ask an Off Topic question, particularly about another airline, than the particular Board relates to.

Thats why I like V-Flyer so much [^][8D]

Well other than me moving it to the correct forum [:p]

But yes, that is one of the thing s that made me stay when I came across the site many years ago, at the time I was even on a VS boycott, but the people here have so much knowledge to share and it is done in a generally friendly way it puts a lot of other forums to shame.
