Check through to connecting flights

Hi all,

I am booked on a BA flight to O'Hare then a separate booking on AA form O'Hare to Minneapolis. Any idea if I can check baggage through or do I need to collect then re-checkin?

Your bags can be checked through as BA and AA are One World partners. However you will need to collect them to go through Customs but you will probably find that there is a bag drop area just after Customs and before the exit from the secure area where you simply hand them back again where they will be transferred on to your next flight. If you have to check in again there will in all probability be an AA check-in desk there too.

HL is right, as you exit US customs through the automatic doors you will see an AA bag drop immediately outside. Drop them there, then take your hand luggage only on the train to the AA terminal (K or L depending on your flight).

And don't forget to put any bottles of duty free etc you bought at LHR in your checked bag before you hand it back over to AA otherwise you will loose any liquids when you go through security for the domestic leg.

I lost all my suntan lotion I had purchased at LHR in MSP on my way to Florida earlier this year because of that! I felt so stupid!

Forgot to say that the formidable ladies who appear to run this section at ORD do (well they did when I was there last year) shout out general warnings about liquids and asked again when scaning the bags before taking them off you.
