Ryanair has announced new baggage charges. On-line fees have gone up by 5 for the first bag and 15 for the second. Airport fees have gone up by 10 for the first bag and a hefty 50 for a second bag [:0]

This is from 1st October. Haven't seen the prices in sterling yet

Ouch! Coupled with recent announcements from Easyjet, looks like times are getting tough for the LCC[:w]

Pretty soon airports fees and APD will be a small part of what EasyJet or Ryanair charge, but will continue to be an easy target for them to confuse fools into believing these airlines act in consumers' interests.

My point was that just because they are scaling down activity at certain airports doesn't necessarily mean that they are going down the tubes. Like any other business they will be looking to get the best return from their investments and will behave accordingly shifting bases of operation and routes as they find fit.

Granted Ryanair's advertising rather overstates its credentials as battling for the consumer - and all airlines are businesses and act in the best interest of their owners and shareholders - but without LCC I wouldn't be able to do my job, or at the very best would having to invest my personal time in travelling to LGW or LHR to make flights from there. Yes, I'd rather be flying on a full service airline, accruing lounge and mileage benefits and being able to have seat assignment, but unless such a carrier is going to have the cojones to take on Ryanair and Easyjet ex Stansted I'm going to grin and bear it and be thankful.

Well unfortunately four of us have to fly FR next week, as we need to go from DUB to LBA for a trade show & FR are the only airline flying this route [:(]

While the actual fare pp is quite low, by the time weve added Priority boarding, a bag each & a charge for online check-in, (which has to be the biggest rip-off ever, being charged for OLCI) the total bill for the four of us has come to over 500.00

So Low fares airline my Ar$e [V]

Nothing about the fact that you can't bring liquids through security anymore, or that their (FR) allowed carry on bag is minute. So how the hell are you expected to go for a weekend to London, or for a few days business meetings with a carry-on flying FR [n]

How anyone can advocate flying with this airline is totally beyond me & I know plenty who think EI are a rip off & that FR are the only way to go [n]

I'm dreading the flights next week [:(]

There was a very good article in the property section about Ryanair cutting routes. OK, so it was slanted from the perspective of buying property abroad and how home-owners have found themselves without routes for their overseas property but it makes exactly the points you are making, namely, that they are going to shift from the less profitable routes (and opportunistically blame the 10 departure tax/high airport fees, etc). In other words 'Buyer beware'

Unfortunately there isn't a link to the said article
