Upper Class sales now on the VS Web site. Yippeeeeeeeee!

Lots of destinations, long available dates too, e.g. SFO from 1 Oct to 30 Jun 2010!

Oooh.

No need to thank me, but I knew a sale would appear straight after I book BA flights! [:o)] Prices aren't as good as usual though. 1400 for NYC, whereas it's usually around 1200 in a sale.

Still, I've MFU'd on BA and the flight and hotel are still cheaper than I'd have to pay just for a Virgin flight, so I must keep telling myself it's a good thing I'm saving money.

I was hoping the fares would be a little lower than that advertised, especially to the East Coast....

East coast fares don't seem anything special, even more so when the last couple of sale fares were around the 1100 for NYC, so 1400 for the quiet period in Jan/Feb is quite high.

West coast fares don't seem to bad, pretty standard sale fares of around 1700 for SFO/LAX.

Just hope they have something similar on when I am looking to book in mid/late November time.

'Sale' is a relative word. The cost of booking now to go to SFO PE out / UC return in November is exactly what I paid when I booked in May.

It's gone up a lot, then came down again

Is that a sale?

I've been keeping my eye on some Boston UC returns for Thanksgiving. They have been slowly creeping up after the last UC Sale ended from 1200, reaching a heady 2100 last week! 1389 to Boston is still pretty good.

Agree on prices, I booked JFK in the last sale at 1,068 so 1,369 is not nearly as good, but much better than a standard Z.

Be interesting to see what BA bring out and whether that drives prices down some more, but according to leaks posted in the BA forum here, they appear around the same price.

Nevertheless, not one to look at gift horse in the mouth and turn into a frog (not sure that's a real metaphor [:p]) I've already booked three flights since they're so much better than the prices I was previously looking at.

Was about to same the exact same thing, I wonder how long it will be before BA release a CW sale. There current Y sale is running for a very long period of time and IIRC BA like to do separate Y and CW sales.

A quick look at BA.com shows how much harder they are pushing their sale fares than VS, on the VS site (which still is truly awful) the sale fares are hardly noticeable, where as BA have adopted the internet equivalent of covering your windows with sale signs!

Are we seeing the use of the Tesco's model...'sale'/ 'half price' based on having fares at hiked rate for a set period of time, then lower to 'sale' figure.. marketing trickery..[:?]

Well,I for one am pleased at the 'sale' prices. I have been keeping tabs on the SFO prices for the last month and the lowest UC fare (Z) was around 2800+. Although my trip is not till next June, I did not want to miss out on a 'sale' fare, so have now booked[^].
Mind you, I was rather taken aback by the 45 credit card fee on my little black card [V]. But, I managed to recoup that loss by booking via Quidco and shall get 56 back[y]

Not having flown this route previously, not sure of the best seating.
However, checking the seat ratings, I have chosen 16 and 17 K. (Honeylambs recommendations!). I also noted that the flights from LHR leave at 11.30am. Is this a new time slot? Not that I mind, more time in the Clubhouse[^]

[:?] It was certainly around 1,500 (not a sale fare either) in July and for many months earlier - many have used that price for their trip this/next month. The noew 'sale' price is the most I have seen this route in a long while.

Unfortunately I was not able to book it before July and prices have risen since. I shall be truly miffed if they do drop more before next June:(

This deal would have been absolutely brills if Miami had been included in the sale. Looking for a UC flight out to Lax and rtn from Mia in April. Guess I'll have to keep looking every day and keep my fingers crossed!

Thank you for the alert on the sale..it was previous alert on the site that got us our last UC trip states side

You're right, it really is an appalling misuse of a Web site with a shockingly bad GUI. Virgin should be ashamed of themselves not only compared to BA, but most commercial Web sites!

And what is annoying, when you click the link it takes you to a page that gives you the same information! Why not take you to the booking engine with your destination pre populated?

Z availability doesn't seem to be as high as the last sale, looked late last night and found lhr-bos/jfk-lhr flight for 1399 now showing only D availability= 3900!!
BA still showing 1398 for same dates, don't really want to go with them but looks like i'm going to be booking with the dark side in the morning for my pre christmas break.

Just a thought.... Might these sale fares be higher than previous ones due to the fact the dredded APD is about to (or has recently) just been increased? I understand the increase is pretty heavy for the premium cabins?

Are VSreally doing much better thanBA at present in filling thier aeroplanes; looking at late Oct/early Nov to Delhi prices and availbitiy for PE much poorer vs WT+?

Waht is going on. We're allgoing to have to go to the Dark Side at this rate!

As announced in November 2008, APD will go up from 1st November 2009 but it no way does it account for the big increases in the sale fares people have mentioned.

EG - APD in Econ to the US (Band C) will go up from 40 to 50 on 1st November and then to 75 in November 2010

In other classes it changes from 80 to 100 this November and then to 150 in November 2010.

Im been drawn more & more in that direction of late I must confess [:(]

Recent flights to YVR & MIA were quite good & I do like T5.

Weve a trip to PHL & NYC in the planning stages for Oct / Nov at the moment, so with BAs direct flight to PHL, theres really no other way to go.

Also, as Ive re-qualified for Silver again, I can assign seats, which was major gripe of mine with them in the past. So that coupled with some very good fares that they have on offer lately, particularly the current CW fares, is making a very strong case in the Kered household to fly BA for the foreseeable future.
