VH aren't doing more than filling in a section of the CAA claim form which allows the refund to be paid to someone else. Clients still have to pay the VH price. Many tour operators are accepting deeds of assignment.

Credit cards are essential when booking direct with an airline or a company not covered by ATOL - but when your purchase is ATOL protected the credit card would not be of assistance - they would simply bat you over to the CAA.

Its still a positive thing for people who have had their hopes dashed and might not be so savvy on form filling and being victim to whats happened.

I don't think VH needs to match the prices either of a company that has been undercutting them for more than 10 years and has now erm run out of cash to keep going.

Wonder if this will change any of the winter schedules.

After the reduction in capacity to Orlando (I remember when mco had 3 747's from lgw alone at Christmas time) along with the increased demand from some of the 85,000 that are stuck along with a percentage of the 200,000 advanced bookings that were booked to go to Florida, will we see any of the cancelled flights put back on.

I noticed when looking for Christmas flights, some where pretty full already

My flight back in Upper on Jan 10th from MCO to MAN was empty for ages apart from me, three days ago its full. The flight out in Upper from Heathrow to Miami on 23rd Dec seems to be going from red to purple on the seatmap quite quickly.

Probably all ties into Bills thread here with only full fare economy tickets left.

I wasn't implying that there was anything wrong with Virgin not reducing their prices. I think the Virgin Experience is well worth a premium on what TCD offer!

What an awful situation for all those people who have lost their jobs and passangers who lost their holidays :(

What happens to all the aircraft? do they get sold off to other companies?

The lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, who works as a pilot with the UK charter airline Astraeus, has also just returned from a flight to Sharm El Sheikh. He said people had given up leave to get a crew together for the flight.

[:O]

My daughter has just called us and she was due to fly from Sharm Sunday afternoon, she has just got to the airport as advised and all the Reps have disappeared (can't really blame them)
There has been one announcement to say there may be a plane in later[:0] later WHEN[?]
The passengers from Friday's flights are still at the airport[:0]I really feel for these poor souls.
The rumours are circulating that there is a 747 and one other aircraft supposedly on the way from the UK to collect them all[?]

Hi Goanmad,
Not sure which UK airport your daughter is destined for, but looking at the ATOL site where all XL replacement flights are listed it looks like XLA517, originally scheduled to depart Sharm yesterday for Gatwick, is being operated by Monarch tonight, leaving SSH at 03:30 local in the morning and returning Gatwick 06:30. Full listing of all Sharm repatriation flights here

Not sure if this helps?
James
PS: The ATOL flight listings are all quoted in GMT just to make life extra difficult!!

Thats great Thanks very much

Just called her to give her the good news and they are just being issued with boarding cards, so she is chuffed to bits and say's to thank you as well.[y]
There are several unlucky people still stranded who have sat and sat and sat and still can't get flights as they have run out of money and/or didnt book with a Tour Op or by Credit Card!
Really appreciate that link, it has settled Mum and daughter so much[y]
Thanks again

Monarch is handling most of the repatiration flights - most Monarch codes are actually for hired in ac and crews therefore it'll be a lucky dip as to what will be flying - according to a.net it seems to be mainly 747-200s, Tristars and DC10s.

Noticed an interesting statement at the bottom of this page: quote:The Civil Aviation Authority had said XL customers should be able to stay in their holiday accommodation which would be paid for by the company's administrators.

But it has now said it is too early to say whether XL's bond of 42m from the Air Travel Organisers Licensing (Atol) scheme will cover the repatriation and refund costs of the 30,000 people stranded abroad.

Most of the people in my Daughters Hotel had been told they could stay and would still be on All Inclusive[y] There are several who had been told to leave the Hotel immediately and had decided to barricade themselves in their rooms!

When my Daughter left the Hotel last night the Armed Police had arrived to help those people out of their rooms[V] So what those poor devils are going to do remains a mystery[?]

VEGASCRAZY, thanks very much for all the info, it really helped. To make matters worse, Daughter got held up in queues for over 2 hours owing to a serious accident on the way home.

I think Monarch have got it right hiring in aircraft and crew from ACMI companies to operate the repatriation flights, and considering the uncertainty that passengers have gone through in the days after XL going under they'll be glad to simply get a seat on a flight home!

Wearing my plane enthusiast's hat I do wish I was on the repatriation flights simply so I can fly on a classic aircraft again. [8D]

According to XM29/BBC1, today is the last day to claim refunds from XL Airways. So fill out the forms, etc (but hear that is an issue...).

Heard on the radio today that there are still a few thousand customers who have not had their refunds yet. But, in good old pass the buck fashion, they are blaming the customers for not filling the forms out correctly, or not providing all the documents needed.

TBH, Neil, whilst that may sound awfully callous, most people are complete idiots so I don't doubt their side of the story.
