Just got back this morning, and connected my 3GS to the Mac... it killed it!

I get a message saying that my iPhone is in Recovery mode, and to restore it. But when I click on Restore I get an error message 1611, saying that the iPhone cannot be restored.

Has anyone else had this?

Nope, we both upgrade to itunes 9 last night, and then upgraded our iphones to version 3.1 without any problems.

Now's a good time to get an Android phone then! [:w]

You sure you dont have a Palm Pre [:w] as Apple have blocked that handset syncing with iTunes (again)!

Try this

If you Google it, there's quite a few websites mentioning the 1611 error.

No problems here either. My 3G took almost 20mins to back-up after the re-boot once I'd updated to 3.1 but having synced again since then it's back to normal now.

Liking iTunes 9.0 here especially now you can place you apps on specific screens on your iPhone [y]

iTunes now finally opens automatically when I plug in my iPhone which previous version never did using Windows 7.

I took it to the Apple Store (surprisingly, got a 'Genius' appointment at two hours notice - in Kingston) and also surprisingly, she said that she had had a few reboots today because of the update, and that they could fix it in store.

Unfortunately, it's totally messed up my iPhone and she couldn't fix it, so I get a new one on Tuesday. When I am in Scotland... so no iPhone for over a week.

Boooo! But Yaaaay for a shiney new iPhone.

Great, and not so great, but if you have a 3GS it can't be that old anyway?

I upgraded to iTunes 9 on my Mac yesterday - updated both iPhone and iPod touch without problem ... thank fully, as going to the US tomorrow and no iPhone would have been a disaster!

Got a phone call from Kingston store today - phone arrived and it's now in my hands. Here's hoping the back up I did last night works... but I am happy anyway.

The other iphone was four weeks old!

I've found iPhone backup/restore to be a bit hit and miss the few times I've needed it (after getting replacement handsets due to cracking back plates). Doing a manual backup every so often seems to back more up.

I had to do 3 restores now and only 1 of those did a complete restore back to how I originally had my iPhone.

It's doesn't help as I'm using MobileMe, one of the side effects of MobileMe is that you tend not to sync with your PC/Mac as often, well at least I don't anyway so my backups are few and far between.
