Hi
One of my friends and I were due to fly to Dubai next month. I had purchased both our tickets as rewards. However, something has now come up and he won't be able to make it. One of my other friends has now jumped at the chance for a free trip to Dubai. Is it possible to change the reward ticket to a different name? I am aware I may need to pay more miles or an administration fee but I don't mind. I really need to keep the dates as they are as I have booked hotels rooms and the good deal I got makes them non-refundable.

I just checked on the VA website and found that there are no more reward seats available for the outbound and inbound dates. However, if I cancel friend A's booking, will that free up a reward seat, thus allowing me to book friend B's reward flight?????

Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

Hi,

From the FAQ's on the VS website

Q Can I change the name on my ticket?
A Virgin Atlantic does not permit name changes on any ticket purchased

What type of ticket did you buy? You can reclaim the tax back, or look to upgrade the ticket to a flexible one so that your friend can reuse it on another occasion but otherwise there isnt much you can do. This is why non-flex tickets are so much cheaper than full fare flex.

Thanks,
Sarah

The ticket was a reward economy ticket, upgraded to PE using the Free Upgrade Voucher. I now know that a name change is impossible. However, if I were to cancel my friend's ticket would that automatically free up a reward seat on the VA booking system?

Not necessarily, if the flight is full, or PE is full, then revenue management might decide to sell the seat as a revenue fare rather than a reward one.
