This is the main V-Flyer Forum for general discussion of everything related to flying with Virgin-branded travel companies.

I agree Nick, but nice to see that some public backlash has forced them to change something. If only we could do the same with the Virgin Amex surcharge!

I imagine that once the US charge for ESTA there will be more of these types of sites, as people get confused what they have to pay, and what they are needlessly paying on top.

This on Facebook

Virgin Atlantic also commented on their wall post:

'Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Perhaps we didn't make it clear enough on the website but our advice to all passengers is to click through to the US Government website first to obtain their ESTA free of charge. For those who want more assistance or have more complicated travel queries we have a facility with CIBT where passengers have the option of paying for CIBT to process their ESTA application if they prefer. We have now made this clear on our website. We apologise for any confusion.'

It is silly that I can book the same flight on expedia and pay no surcharge but have too on VS !

Yeah people power.

Although, never let an op. to make a fast buck get in the way of a mealy mouthed apology!

Tonty, next thing to post then, I am starting to think that a little public backlash on FB we may be able to get small things changed.

Do I detect a slight note of mischief brewing here[}:)]

Seriously, if used where there is a valid point, I think it is always worth bearing in mind

Not at all, from a personal POV it just seems to me that VS has gotten away with a few things over the years, as I posted in the FB thread, there have been massive cuts in the last couple of years all in the name of improving the VS experience for the pax, don't know how that works, but there you go.

Anyways, right now I don't have any real complaints with VS, I am sure that will change in the next 2 months though [:D]

hmmmmm this thread has now dissapeared from the VS facebook page but interestingly I can still see it it I access it via my notifications.

Nothing to do with VS wanting to hide their volte face?

Interesting, I've just received an email from the FCO informing me of a change to their advice on USA entry requirements.
Can't see any change except it now includes:
quote:VWP travellers should be aware that unauthorised third parties have established websites which charge for information about ESTA and for submitting applications. These are not endorsed by, associated with, or affiliated in any way with the United States Government. UK travellers are advised to be wary of such sites and businesses, particularly those that seek fees for services offered. The process, as outlined above is currently free.
Don't remember that there before!
