There is in fact a hell of a lot - and when you reach the magic figure of Tier points I am sure you will find out - plus has nothing to do with miles as I DONT collect them.

I quite like the membership card embossed using pure gold, the hand signed birthday card every year, the guarantee of no children or infants being in a 6 row radius of me. All good really! [:w]

I know, used to be more but then I think someone complained and asked what more they could get?

You reminded me of another benefit, actual Virgin staff turn up to social events that you go to. If you're really important to the airline, they even let you borrow their hat!

Hackneyguy the miles must go into your account though? I think some charities accept miles donations. Looks like I'm not going to get any serious answers about this. Oh well I tried...

Not all fares earn miles, and some roles are not allowed to earn miles.

Very well put, Mr Hackneyguy is someone who is not allowed to earn miles, though he is more than welcome to donate them to the save the Scrooge fund if he can figure out a way to do it [?]

The markings on the party bus manifest were warnings to the crew to watch out for this one, this one and maybe this one [?]

A couple of years ago I was on a flight from SFO, the guy sitting across from me knew all the crew by first name and they obviously knew him, we got chatting at the bar and it turned out that he did 4 UC flights a week so he got to know the crews rather well, I asked him about the level above gold, he said there was but really he didn't use the things offered to him as gold as it was though after a couple of drinks we both agreed that he should try to ask for something silly on one of his trips just to see if VS would do it.

Oh he also uses his miles to take the family to Necker once a year [y]

When it comes to BA, yes the grey level is kind of a funny thing. An aunt and uncle were given the cards a few years back, at that time I had never heard of it and asked the question on here, as they traveled between JNB and LHR in first pretty much weekly I thought that may be the reason, after my aunt passed away I cornered my uncle and asked him about it, it turns out my cousin owns a riding school and half the boards kids were learning to ride there, one hand washes the other I guess lol

As it is, I was given a lifetime Chairman's level on US a couple of years back,I don't have to pay baggage fees and I get upgraded on pretty much any flight, however US has gutted their LAS hub and it's now pretty much useless to me.

Well I am GB top and what I can say is that the service is very personal and excellent. There are alot of benefits , and infact there are actually further tiers. The crew are aware of who is onboard as there are designations for the type of GB Top travelling. Having being a BA black card holder the GB Top service is one of the best in the industry.... no complaints here at all

There are two tiers above VS Gold but I have not heard of any being called GB Tops. Also not heard of BA Black - perhaps Premier [:?]

Goodness me, even when you reach the heady heights of GB Top, there are further tiers within this level, will it never end. Can one ever get to the top and go no further, me thinks not. For some reason that Frasier episode keeps popping into my head!?!

As the 'Beyond Gold' members appear to be being a little cagey about the benefits of their exhaulted status (why??), perhaps an interesting question to pose of the mere Au members in our midst would be: what perks would you like that you don't already get?

Now that is an interesting question mdvipond. Years ago, in days of old blah blah, AU members used to get little treats like the chance to go on inaugural flights, invitations to the staff party etc. We had some very nice little treats in our first year or two, so that would be nice. After that it all dried up as I think that only did these things for new AU's. We went down to Ag (mon dieu, tongue in cheek) and are now back at Au, no treats forthcoming as yet. But in this climate I think that all the things that we get are pretty good, especially clubhouse access, priority, the baggage allowance and not forgetting the miles. The only other thing would be for Virgin to continue thriving so that our collected miles will not be in vain, and I am sure that all Flying Club members would agree with that.

Just another little thought, I bet the GB Tops lot get the little treats now, but only if you are in tier three of the GB tops!!

I for one would be gutted to be in this GB Top thing, slogged my guts out to get however many teir points you need only to be told there is are more important GB tops than you on the aircraft, what a blimmin nightmare.

The BA gold guest list gets you a very useful once a year miles redemption into any available fare class for your whole party. (inc amex 241 and gold upgrade for 2 bookings).

What is amex 241 and gold upgrade?

Just one other thought, if you are a Titanium AU holder, does this elevate the gold status that one has aquired via AMEX or devalue it. One the one hand Virgin may fawn because of the titanium status or sniff because you got it for free. Comments welcome on this.

Amex 241 is an e-voucher awarded once per year for 10k spend in your membership year on the BA Amex Premium plus credit card.The voucher gives you 2 tickets for the price of one on any mileage redemption.

The Gold upgrade for 2 is awarded on UK BAEC accounts for hitting 2500 (2000 European accounts) TPs and again at 3500 TPs.It upgrades 2 people to the next class on any booking mileage or cash.

Been watching this thread with a bit of interest, if only due to the mystery of it all.

Slightly OT but I would imagine a vast number of top earners in any flying programme get a fair amount of mileage due to their work commitments. Certainly my godmother works for a large bank (no she isn't a banker per se, before I get the abuse..) however she does a lot of traveling and gets to keep all the miles she earns.

Interestingly enough a friend of mine works for a major german car manufacturer, they use LH or other *A carriers for pretty much all their flying and have come to an agreement with LH, where by the member of staff earns the miles on their personal account but they are immediately transferred into said car manufacturers account. The staff member cannot use the miles obviously but the car manufacturer actually uses the miles to book tickets for other staff members etc.


Btw Necker is not all its cracked up to be....trust me [;)]

Someone I know is in the top 100 Virgin customers. He flies an Upper Class return at least once a month.

A few years ago he was travelling to LA on the earlier flight. He was caught in traffic on the M25 and phoned to be ask to be transferred to the later flight. The flight was about midday and he was told if he could make it by midday they would hold the flight for him. He arrived just in time. They parked his car for him and took him straight to the plane.

I met someone once who is a CIP on BA which is meant to be better than VIP and has to be approved by the Board. Only 1 or 2 recieve it a year. Can't remember the benefits, but he was moaning about how hard it is to use BA Miles on BA - even at that level on a flight to Sydney.

I was once on a internal BA flight back to London on a Saturday afternoon. We were due to leave at 5.45pm and we were told there would be a slight delay due to paperwork. A few minutes later on walked a Premiership footballer and his entourage and off we went.

Back to Virgin - I wasn't aware of 2 levels above Gold - I have just got my gold and along with a tacky new card and badge - its not that important after all.
