I've just logged onto my FC account and gone into the Manage my Booking section. Maybe I am being 100% blind, but I can't see the option to view the seat map.

At the top of the screen it says that some bookings can view and amend your seat selection (but no link to click on). On the last VS flight I did, the button to view the seat map was there right up until the point that all the pre-allocated seats had gone (then it said something like 'seats will be allocated at the airport').

Am I missing something or are Virgin starting to restrict who can pre-select their choice of seat?

Thanks
James

Try logging out and going to manage my booking and entering the details manually. That works for me, but not if I log in first.

Wasn't there a thread some time back saying that you had to enter your flight details manually to make the seat selection work?

You may have to manualy input the booking reference - I have found that I need to these days.

I'm also told the seat map will only appear if there are actually seats left to choose. Could be clearer and at least tell you if its available or not

Nope.

It will appear showing where you are but the option to select your seat will not be shown.

Thanks for the fast replies - manually entering the flight details into the Manage my Booking section bought up the links to the seat map.

Yup, it's one of those bugs that have crept into the VS site and not been fixed ... you'll need to go to Manage My Booking and instead of clicking on the hyperlink with your flight detailed, look to the right where there are boxed and enter your booking reference and name - that will result in being able to view and select seats.

I sometimes wonder if VS's IT people really know how their Website works [V].

Maybe we need to start a facebook campaign to sort this out? [:?]

I do wish they would show the seat number on the main page again though, I shouldn't have to keep clicking the seat map to see where I am. Another 'improvement' I guess.

I agree. It used to be useful when you clicked an arrow beside your name which showed your seat number, especially when the 60% of seats had been allocated.

Ah, it all becomes clear! I thought the no. of available seats that can be pre-assigned had been reached.

Also explains that when I use the link, the booking doesn't say I have already entered my APIS data but manually going through the booking it does.

Interestingly, it was offering to upgrade my seat from Y to UC for 190 on the return flight but none where available, D'Oh!
Go back in to the booking and it's now offering upgrades to PE for 1239.40 and to UC for 677.00![:?]

I'm so glad I spotted this thread, thanks everybody, I was beginning to think it was just me not able to find the seat allocation link and yes I to have reported it but to no avail obviously !

Hi all,

I'm still having problems with this, regardless of whether I login or enter the PNR in the 'manage my booking' tab.

I was able to view the seat map and select seats before, but this function now seems to have disappeared, whatever the way I access the booking.

Any views?

Hi and welcome,

The other main reason why the system won't allow you to view the seat map is because the 60% of seats that are available for pre-selection have all been allocated. This causes the system to remove the ability to view your existing seats but any requests you have already made will still be there.

The seat map will open again at OLCI stage, releasing the remaining 40% of seats, apart from exit rows and bulkheads which can only be allocated at the airport.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm confused: an earlier post suggested that even if the quota of seats available for pre-assignment is exceeded, you'd still be able to see the seats you've selected. That isn't the case for me.

My experiences are different to that of HG, as when it has happened to me previously (since the update to the manage my booking section earlier this year) it has totally removed the option to view the seat map, and doesn't even tell you what your seat numbers are, like it did previously.

I am pretty sure that is how the system works, unless there have been some recent changes that I am not aware of.

Thanks, Neil.

Is there any other way of viewing seat assignments on VS? I know checkmytrip won't work as VS uses something different to Amadeus (I think).
