I posted this one for Carmel Cars

http://www.carmellimo.com/

Used them earlier this year to get me to EWR from downtown. Had no problems with them.

Probbaly others listed on the EWR website too

Not sure which one was posted, but the last couple of times we have had a car out of Manhattan it was Carmel Limo and they were great.

I would actually suggest you get a taxi from EWR to Manhattan, it is a fixed fare to anywhere in Manhattan Island, and will be cheaper than a private car. It is a different story going back to the airport as the rates aren't fixed, and you are on a meter, so if you get stuck in traffic, it could cost more. Your choice of course, but we have always used a cab without any problem.

We used Carey last time, fantastic service but it wasn't cheap. If we hadn't have had my mum with us would have taken a cab.

We used Dial7 a couple of years ago and they were very good. A mate of mine used the last month and said the service was great and they had some really godd deals on prices as well.

Last month i did EWR to Times Square in a cab and the fixed cost was $55 (i think might have been a bit less but def not more)

Return is different you havea choice of a meter which can run anywhere between $60-$90 cependant on traffic. Although you can also negotitate a fixed fare with the driver. Ours was $80 fixed.

Thanks all. I hadn't understood about the fixed price *from* the airport, so that's really useful information.

I know that this is a question that's likely to generate answers that begin 'well, that depends..' but how long is likely to take to get from EWR to Manhattan from VS001 (lands about 18:30) and then from Manhattan to EWR for VS002 (departing 22:25, but allowing for a couple of CH hours...)

Can tell you about the return journey for you (arrived at JFK but left from EWR)

I left my hotel near Wall Street at approx 6.30 PM and was at EWR at about 7.30.

This was a Wednesday Evening in Mid March,

Departure time was 22.25 so a nice couple of hours in the CH but although nice - somewhere to get drinks and food its not a 'destination' if you know what I mean - no treatments or vies of the runway etc.

We landed at EWR about 2300/2330 hrs and it took about an hour to get to Times Square (Friday night and the queue at the tunnel was massive.)

Returning we left about 1500hrs Monday pm and it took about 45 mins, althoguh as has been said the CH @ EWR isn't brilliant, no treatments etc. That said the food was excellent although it's only put out when the VS staff are there.

One bonus is if you get there before check in opens then the CH is only a few mins from check in (landside) and you an access it whilst you wait for check in to open.

Depending on the time of day you arrive, you might want to consider the public transport option. The Air Train links all the terminals with Newark International Railway Station where there's a choice of either frequent Amtrak or New Jersey Transit services straight into Penn Street Station.

From memory last year, from landing to getting to the Holiday Inn on 57th Street was just under an hour! Note the Air Train is free if you're using it to connect between the terminals at Newark Liberty International otherwise there's a $5 charge to ride to the Railway Station. Fare into Manhattan is from memory $11.

On the VS1, I would say you can get to Manhattan for about 2030 (on previous experience).

Andrew - how did you get from Penn Station to 57th? Whilst the idea of saving some cash to fund other activities (principally a return taxi trip home - LHR; it's MrsPJHs birthday the day we fly back back so I intend to have a champers or two) appeals, the idea of arriving a the Waldorf under a layer of walking inspired perspiration doesn't appeal.

I hear what you and Tonty are saying about the CH, so thanks for that. That said, birthday and everything so a cocktail or three wouldn't go amiss. Does anyone know what time the staff are there ?

Thanks again

Paul,

I got a cab from outside of Penn Street Station - again from memory took around 10 minutes and cost around $6

Thanks,

Andrew.

We were on the VS002 and i seem to recall the VS staff arrived about 1730ish. Before that airport staff covered the lounge. There were still drinks and snacks available but the main food doesn't arrive until after the VS staff arrive.
