Hi,

I'm trying to buy PE tickets to NYC in January. 2 weeks ago they were 500 quid - now 840 each!! Anyone got any guesses as to when (and if) they night go down. My days are fixed so less inclined to just take a chance in case they sell out.

Thanks

People planning New Year trips is my guess. With the 2nd being a Saturday, that will be the end of the holiday and people will be back at work on Monday.

Hhhmmm ... not sure the OP intended to say Jan 2nd, looks like ' ... in January (full stop then) 2 weeks ago ...'. Nevertheless Darren's point stands, if it's early January, chances are with the long New Year weekend you won't have much luck with prices decreasing. Fares from the US still look to be in the 500 quid return range (availability notwithstanding), so I suspect right now you've just run out of availability on your preferred dates. I'd check the loads for the flight and see where they stand right now, as a paying member you have trial access to ExpertFlyer which should give you the information you need.

It looks to me like the cheapest K fare code seats in PE have all been sold on that flight and you are now having to buy the next fare up, an S. If that is the case then it means that the flight is semi-busy already in PE, and that you won't see a drop back down to the fares you were being quoted before. There is always fluctuation in the each fare code but as much as it might go down, it could quite easily also go back up.

If your dates are fixed and you are set on flying PE, then my advice would be to buy now, to secure your seats at the current price. Worst case scenario is that all the S fares sell out and you would be stuck with buying a W, which would be a lot more again.

If it was 2 weeks ago then the last sale was still on as it finished 22nd Sep, so could that explain the lower fare?

I know when I was looking to upgrade my next flight. The VS site were offering them for 190 (Y to PE). Soon as the sale finished they were 498.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and pay the current rate!
