Kids on planes - amusing article

Just seen this in the online version of the Melbourne daily speadsheet. Quite amusing - but be aware, as it is Australian [}:)], it has some colourful language.

(Mods if you deem it too unsuitable please take it down).

It certainly provoked plenty of comments. Many as amusing as the original blog.

As a mother who has travelled on planes with the kids since they were embryos, I woud just like to say It was always the other children that caused the noise, mess, threw up, got locked in the loo, started the fights, - mine were little angels [:w]

I love how some of the comments advise those who don't want to travel with children to 'pay for First class' ... as if children are not allowed in the front cabin [:)]

It's not the children per se but the lack of any parental control or forward planing for especially long fights and the realisation that a plane is not the same as nipping down to the shops.

There is a difference between a screaming child ignored by a parent and one who is being comforted - at least with the latter the parent is trying to do something about it and other pax can see that and be at least a little bit more understanding.

Same with toddlers - the aisles are not play grounds !

Though I am rather taken with the idea of a seperate section sealed off from other pax for children and families.

Or indeed given their use of the written word in those posts. I always believed the contributors to Private Eye's 'From the Messageboards' spoof to be the fevered imaginings of some hack after a long lunch at the Coach and Horses, but it seems they are out there, keyboards at the ready...

Having now read the original article I found it, and some of the responses, and entertaining way to pass a few minutes, not least because what I saw as a tongue in cheek tone to the original article was clearly not seen as such by others.

I find myself amuzed, clearly the writer of the article was not really sorry.

Personally its parents with attitude that rub me up the wrong way with the 'what do you expect your going to Florida' routine, actually
I expect not to be traumatised by naughty kids just because Mum n Dad have developed an immunity to the noise doesn't mean the rest of us have.

Personally, I find it a rather unoriginal article that seemed to be telling us all how well travelled the author is.

On the whole I agree - it is the parents not the kids. And often the father who takes the option of drinking himself to sleep and letting er indoors sort it out.

I think they should operate adults only flights! [y]

I find it's generally the parents the start the ball rolling..
small child: mum, mum, mum
'parent': SHUTUPPPP I'M BUSY (possibly with the odd rude word thrown in)
this all ends up with the child screaming even more, throwing a tantrum and me wanting to dive behind my desk at work for fear of germs, paper, tacky jewellry and children being thrown over my desk.

The thought of spending 8 hours with them makes me want to stick needles in my eyes!

I posted the link as I thought it was funny and there have been a number of discussions about children.

I should point out at this stage that the author of the piece, Catherine Deveny - is described as follows -
