Flying out to Grenada on the 26th of next month, had a quote from FC for an upgrade to PE one way (no avaliability on the way back) and they quoted me 2,750 miles + 210 for the LGW-GND leg upgrade.

Aparently theres 'high' avaliability in the PE cabin on that flight at the moment, so my questions are:

#1. Is that amount worth the upgrade on the LGW fleet?
#2. Is the upgrade price likely to get any cheaper at airport check in?

Many Thanks! [:p]

I think that is a pretty good deal, there are offers done at the airport but I doubt that the LGW PE upgrades would be any cheaper at the airport. PE is often very busy on these routes.

PE is much nicer than economy, even if just for the bit of extra space and peace and quiet.

As I've said before, LGW PE Upstairs is actually rather nice!

Whether it's 'worth it' depends on your availability of cash....

I agree wholeheartedly. It starts a trip off in a nicely relaxed style.

As to the OP, the 'high' availability should mean you can secure a seat upstairs (assuming that the route isn't being serviced by an aircraft from LHR) but doesn't necessarily mean that they'll have a knock down bargain sale on the day. ISTBC but I understand decisions on upgrade offers depend on loading across the classes ('cheap' upgrades are sometimes offered as a way of relieving pressure on oversold cabins) and attitude to brand protection (if it was known that they always sold off upgrades cheap on the day then there's the potential for people to hold off booking in that class in the hope of a bargain on the day).

If it's a chance to do PE in the bubble then do it, more room and more relaxed atmosphere up there.

If you want to fly PE, then I would book it before hand. If you are happy to fly in Y, but PE would be nice at the right price, then maybe risk it at the airport.

It is interesting that they are offering you a miles + money upgrade, was your original fare an MPM fare? I'm not 100% sure, but if your original booking was just cash, and you take there MPM upgrade offer, you would only earn miles/TP's on the original economy fare.

This is the thing, my original booking was a MPM fare so therefore I wouldn't be earning any miles; and if I was going to pay for a PE upgrade it would be nice to recieve the extra miles / tier points so might have to do it on my next booking!

To be honest I don't have a problem travelling in Y, so I'll think ask at the airport and see what the deal is there!

I wouldn't of thought Grenada is much of a business destination, so can't imagine too many last minute bookings?

No it isn't much of a business destination, but don't forget it will it is a honeymoon destination and many people will be booking PE as a treat etc.

However here are the loads for 26th November.

That makes more sense then. You won't earn any miles or TP's on that flight at all, upgraded or not.

PE (and UC for that matter) is very popular with leisure travellers as well as, so business travellers. I do however agree that with just over a month to go, it is unlikely to suddenly get full.

I thought Jamaica was not really a business destination until I went there last December, and came back with a whole bunch of ship repairers.

As for the OP, I would pay now, and get the seat you want, rather than risk it at the airport.
