I am due to come back from DEL on 5th Dec on an 'S' (going out on a 'Z') and have been hoping and praying for a G to become available to upgrade using miles. I chose this route over the direct BA route to BLR to renew my Au (and it was 100 cheaper for my employer).

I had to call the Flying Club Au line today to get some miles added to Mrs S's account (which was a VS error) so whilst there I asked whether they could possibly contact Revenue to see if they could open a G for me. The flight is fully open at the moment.

I was not necessarily looking for an instantaneous positive answer as I know there is time to go and they could sell the seats in the meantime etc but the VS person said they are not allowed to contact Revenue anymore.

I assume this is a new 'feature'.

Any more new features coming out that will encourage Au's to stay with VS?

I appreciate that if I want to be guaranteed a seat at the front the only way to do this is paying for it (which, in a way, I would be doing with miles), but the fact that you cannot even ask is somewhat off putting.

Interesting, I had heard that VS had instituted tighter internal management and approval processes around revenue, flexibility of changes and other but have not witnesses this situation yet myself [:?].

This has been the case for quite a while, last year I was trying to get a 'G' to MCO as expertflyer was showing 9's in UC one month before the flight.
The lady in the Premier Services Team told me that that they were not allowed to contact revenue management anymore and it was a case of wait and see.

Steve,

A G to MCO is as rare as hens teeth (even though I picked up 2 outbound for 20th Oct - still can't believe I managed that !) as it is a very popular route and also suffers from limited seating (14 I think in J).

I could understand them saying one would not be available, but not being able to ask is the galling part.
