Ours had more of the Morecambe aesthetic.

Sadly my mum's doesn't look like that...damn...I'd already spent the money too. Perhaps there is a market for an earlier edition in multi coloured plastic?[?]

Wow what a cracker of a TR very in depth and enjoyable, im afraid the post holiday blues will kick in for about 2-3 weeks after returning especially when you have looked forward to it for months.

Great TR thanks Paul. Glad you both enjoyed your first UC flights, but I think Mrs PJH has got it spot on, NYC is a bit short. I think you will enjoy UC on a longer flight even mire, nothing better than spending a few hours at the bar whilst still enjoying a good film or two and a nap.

I mentioned this in my recent TR on the VS2 and Tinkerbelle posted that in EWR boarding is always through the first door as the jetways cannot reach the second door on the A346.

[:I] Indeed you did...it possibly slipped my mind as that is now a vessel only capable of holding a finite number of items and I didn't want the length of a jetway to occupy a slot normally reserved for my children's names, my PIN or the fact that the correct response to 'A top up, sir?' is 'yes please'.

Looks like being put to bed by a crew member is becoming the latest de rigueur V-Flyer activity. Perhaps we should design a T-Shirt to advertise the fact: 'I've Been Tucked In By A Virgin'. Or suchlike.

Thanks for such an informative trip report! We're going to NY next month so it's been great reading.

Could I please ask you for some advice? We're also returning on the VS2 and have a car booked to pick us up from our hotel near Times Square at 6.45pm as I'm fully expecting traffic problems, but as you say that your journey was 40 minutes I wonder if that's too early now.

Would you say that this is a sensible time? We're PE so won't need to be there early enough to experience the Clubhouse!

We've only done it the once so it's a bit difficult to draw on our experience as being in any way the norm. Our driver told us that we'd been lucky that evening and sometimes it took him 40 minutes to get across town to the tunnel.

Have a great time in New York. I can recommend a couple of great traditional diners for breakfast / lunch...

Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess maybe the best thing would be to ask the driver taking us from the airport to the hotel if they think the time is OK and can change it then if necessary.

It will be my third trip to New York but it's my mum's first - it's a girly trip to celebrate a 'special' birthday - but recommendations would still be much appreciated. I'm trying to create an itinerary that involves (a) all the major sights, (b) getting slightly off the tourist trail and (c) a bit of time for shopping! In 4 days.... [:D]

So yes, anything to save a bit of time would be great, thanks!

New York Historical Society - has some excellent permanant and temporary exhibitions

And as your going before Christmas there are craft stalls etc at Union Square and Grand Central for unusual gifts (or treats for yourself!)
