LOL - not democratic, but who cares? [;)]

It will be very interesting to see how Herr Blatter reacts after all of his pontificating about 'Fair Play' etc.

The authorities have got what they want - the big team in the finals, but at what cost?

I used to be a great admirer for Thierry Henry, but no more! To come out in the media and almost brag about it is really rubbing salt in Irish wounds!

Am in no way a footy fan but this is appalling and blatent cheating but Blatter won't do anything. Afterall he changed the rules to seed the play offs quite late in the day.

Mr Blatter wouldn't know the meaning of 'fair play' if it came and bit him on his bum ! (can I say bum?)

Yes but not cam [;)]

BTW all a foreign language to me; now if it were croquet or polo then I could join in the banter [:w]

Ah Mssr Blatter, the head of contradictions and the biggest slush fund.

Wants to encourage sport for kids and endorses MacDonalds for the 2010 world cup.

Feels that technology is not good for the fast pace of the game but allows the use of two 'line' judges/referees (which ironically would have disallowed the cheating cheese-eating surrender monkeys goal.)

Wants to stamp out racisim but only fines Croatia 20,000 for racist taunts to England players.

Signs the biggest sponsorship deal with Satyam and hails the company's integrity shortly before they were investigated for Fraud.

I may agree with all else, but having been on the inside of Satyam, Mr Blatter on this occasion can be excused ...

Don't worry, HG, I'm not going to rise to the bait [:o)]

Say what you like about the match and its aftermath but at least it stopped us worrying about much more mundane things as the flood waters rose around us [:w]

And you D, obviously not thick, you've NEVER heard of Roy Keane? Really? I suppose it's possible, just somewhat amazing to me.

I have heard the name and know he is something to do with football. From context he would seem to be management not a player? But this is wilfully perverse I could just Google him... OK the very first hit tells me he is a Manager of a Club ending in Town. Who play in blue. TWTD.co.uk? Ohhhhh the Title Caption mentions Ipswich Town. So I guess he manages Ipswich Town? To compound my ignorance I have no clue what league they are in nor what he was doing at an England vs France match. I could Google that too I guess but given he's a manager it would seem likely that he had some form of management role so might be the England Manager?

This was not GJ's post - Decker accidentally trashed the original in an attempt to reply quickly. This is Decker posting. [:(]

He's dreamy and speaks his mind. And he's a legend.

HG and D, I understand not knowing some of the finest details of the world's most popular sport, but this intentional ignorance is either a) unbelieveable or b) worrying evidence of an advanced state of savant syndrome.

Really, HG -- not an idea whatsoever about the France - Ireland controversy? You showed some curiosity about it to even attend this thread...or did you just come round for a prawn sandwich?

And you D, obviously not thick, you've NEVER heard of Roy Keane? Really? I suppose it's possible, just somewhat amazing to me.

Hmmm...

GJ

OT: I used to have incredible respect for Henry and his sportsmanship and off-pitch campaigns against racism in sport (his appearance on Parky had to have woken some people up), but this is awful. Hell, when I handle the ball in our Sunday league games I just immediately put my hand up and call myself out for it...I'd rather be known as a good sport than get a goal. I know the pressure is high and the reward is great in this game for France, but they've won it with such a terrible cloud over their heads -- well, let's just hope they lose to England in the final.

GJ, you think that the French will actually qualify out of the group stage?[:?]

Someone erased my post and posted as me on here. Very upsetting. And not the first time. I did not write that meandering rumination on Roy Keane, as I hope anyone would know.

Thanks.

Oh I did notice that GJ dig at me (and HL) had gone !

I have to admit that I am not a fan of that particular 'sport' - but have never watched a game. Football was banned from being played at my schools (rugby was the game for 'gentlemen') and my family are cetainly not football fans - but always interested to hear the exploits that our dear GJ gets up to in his spare time hence my interest in this thread - but if there is a prawn sandwich in the offing then I would always be game for a nibble .....

I have an insufferable friend from Eton who bleats on like this! [:(!] Nonetheless, I will race you to the prawn sandwich. As much as Roy Keane despises them, I love them!
