Having spent hours and hours, probably days, in DXB transiting flights, I've never actually spent any time in Dubai itself. Now, with shed loads of EK Skywards points, easy availability in business on the A380 (first class a bit tight though) and the will to visit Dubai when it's not at the peak of expectations, may I pose some questions for esteemed fellow V-Flyers?

- is February a good month to visit?
- I like the look of the Hilton Dubai Creek, but important to me is the ability to go out on foot and find restaurants, shops or things to do, is this a good location or any other recommendations?
- excessive UAE glitz is not desired, more traditional luxury, so open to all recommendations?
- I presume hiring a car is a no no given what I hear about the traffic, presumably therefore taking hotel cars is the thing to do, are they expensive or like many US hotels are they free within a certain radius?
- we're not beach people, but a good pool area is a plus.

Thank you

I can only answer a small portion of your questions.

Februarey is an excellent month - I go to Dubai every February for my Birthday and have done for last 10 years. Warm during the day and cool enough to enyoy alfreso dining in the evening.

I persoanlly would not drive in UAE let alone Dubai - crazy drivers. I use a hotel car (noemally stay at The Residence part of The Royal Mirgage (fantastic private pool wihcih other two hotel gues can not use) but stayed at Le Meridien Al Aqah beach (lovely but would not suit your needs as nothing but that hotel for miles)) - always had to to pay for them apart from airport transfers, but suits me for getting around and dumping the shopping en route to other malls etc.

Happy hunting,

HG
