There is also the very sad factor that when you are fortunate enough to fly in J most of the time it does lose that sparkle, especially when you are familiar with flying and know the whole routine. I think SFO is my most flown route, and in Upper every time but one. I much prefer Upper but the time I flew home PE I was plesantly surprised how good it was. I cant say that there is no comparison between W and Y - if there wasnt then the product wouldnt survive as its often double the price of Y.

I guess it depends on what you look for in a flight, or how well you are looked after by the crew. Richard and I have had flights in Premium that were better than a few flights in Upper vecause of how well the crew looked after us. Similarly I have had the opposite where the crew in Premium have treated us like a number or joe public and I missed that touch that most good airlines give in J that make you feel important to them.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah.

I think I should explain that when I said 'no comparison between W and Y' I meant he found PE a much superiour product to Y and nothing like the term 'economy' used in its name.

As someone told us, you and Richard didnt have a good flight back in PE from LAX earlier this year, I was wondering why (i.e was it the product or the service) ? Reason for asking is that I have convinced some friends to try Virgin to Palm Springsafter Pauls experience but not sure if on this route it is worth going to the extra to J (sorry my original post said SFO in error.

Thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge [y]

There was nothing wrong with the flight itself, the issue was more the ground staff and the experience they provided. Then there was Richard throwing his toys out of his pram ... [:)]

As a flyer of the BNE - SYD - LHR run I still have to return 3 times a year to the UK and I would not even think about doing that in Y, it has to be a flat bed or nothing.

The competition on the route is fierce but having been loyal to SQ for ages, VS offers a better business class product. The beds are better and whilst the food is dire by comparison, service inconsistent, the duvet, decent pillow & CH wins me over every time over SQ's scratchy static blanket, smallest pillow in the universe and lounges which people have died from boredom in.

The addition of having two DJ sectors to add to the flight to get from/to home just makes the mileage even better [^] and I'm a mileage whore [:I]

But then, I think us here in Australia are very sheltered from the financial woes and nobody I know here is curbing travel really. If anything the strength of the AUD makes travel very attractive at present.

LAX used to be one of my favourite out-stations - the key staff there were great and used to look after me on my regular visits. Sadly they all moved on to more senior roles elsewhere and now the experience suffers as a result (though the ANZ lounge is a far better offering than the old whatever it was lounge that was about the size of an airing cupboard).

Won't be rushing back to LAX in a hurry, that's for sure. I'd choose SFO with a connection on VX over LAX now.

Just to jump in, LAX went to hell after VS outsourced the ground staff, when it was VS's own staff it was a great station, it went down hill after the switch.
