787 first flight today

Good to see it finally up in the air. Conversely, the other 'new' bird in the sky, the A380, well, that's not up in the air, and is worrying me a tad -

AF have been flying it only 3 weeks, and this is the second problem with it. First a navigation issue, and now a problem with the fuel tanks?! Normally I'd read things like this and think 'Hmm, I'm sure it's nothing major, they'll fix it easy enough'. However, I'm flying on it in 4 days time, so now I'm thinking '****, they BETTER fix it!'

It really shows the wing flex on her, wow is all I can think.

The other thing I am noticing, it's quiet, those engines really don't put out that much noise.

I looked at the youtube video and like you, all I could think of was the wing flex!

It's a proud (and very rainy!) day here in Seattle!

What a fantastic looking aircraft. Could almost have been designed by some italian car designer!

The amount of bending in the wing still amazes me, when it comes off load it just drops.

Take a look at this video of it landing, right at the end the wings loses their lift and drop.

Will the new aircrart coming in 2011 have the dehumidification spoken off in the new 787 & 380 which will reduce the symptoms of jetlag, being that these will be new craft too.

No, the total opposite in fact, the cabins in the 787 and 350 will have a higher humidity as well as a lower cabin altitude, all of which will help with jet lag.

And this is possible because of the composites used in contruction which means that the moisture in the air will not cause corrosion of the metal as it does in current aircraft.
