Thank you all for voting; the matter is settled SCIENTIFICALLY. V-Flyer members do not loathe 'the Northern scum.' (PLEASE NOTE: This term was used by a poster in another section of the board to denote the good people who live above, I guess, Islington. It is not my term. This post is meant to make fun of anyone who would be geophobic. Not available at all stores. Slightly higher cost in Cumbria. Void where prohibited. Copyright 2010).

Please make a note of it.

And before anymore comments can be made, I will lock this thread down.

Nope, but it is the village that is generally considered to be in the center of the country, neither north or south.

I thought Meridan was the furthest point from the sea in the UK, some 72 miles?

Who knows, I googled 'geographical center of the UK' and that's what it came up with.

Unlocked now but is it too late to resurrect GJ ????

(sp: changed to try and keep Decker happy [}:)])

Maybe the site needs OUR (members) help in telling the owner and MODs what we find acceptable in either the Open or indeed Members only section (where there are lots of terms that are unnacceptable) ?

(expanded to explain what I was actualy meaning)

I have no clue how you'd go about reserecting anything. Mind you if you can make up words I'm sure you can make up how to go about it. [:w]

Well there seems to be a bit of a thaw here - temperature above freezing & the icicles are dripping merrily.
Hopefully the cabin fever that seems to have gripped us over the last few days will go away.

I hope GJ will return - we need his humour at times! - even if it is a little 'Northern' occasionally!
I also hope we can lighten up on Scrooge - we also need our 'Fatherly Dictator' at times.

I do hope so - knee jerk re-action to members is something we should not condone and after speaking to him (and others off line) I seriously doubt it [:(]

This sounds all too familiar a story. I like GJ (now), but this exact scenario has happened at least once before, and guess what, GJ was back.

Ultimately it is his choice but I certainly don't think anything done or said in this or the other thread is enough to warrant a decision to not use the site again.

Sorry, I was unaware that this had happened before. (prob before I joined)

Out of interest was his profile deleted last time too ? If so I can continue with my personal hope that he will return to V-Flyer together with his unique humour.

GJ requested that his profile be deleted, and whilst it's a shame to lose any active member of the community (and I did ask him to reconsider before he left), this exact scenario has happened before; so make of that what you will. I don't believe for a second the actions of a mod locking a poll which could possibly be offensive to be incorrect. As it turned out, a democratic discussion amongst members decided that the humour with which GJ originally intended the poll to be taken was probably not going to be taken as offensive, and maybe we were just being a little overly-cautious. I, for one, support Dave's initiative in locking the thread, but also glad as a community we can come to the conclusion about what is being too 'PC'.

If GJ wishes to return at some point in the future, he will, of course, be welcomed back as his deletion is purely his own decision, not enforced.

And just to point out, I did try to contact GJ via IM, he decided to ignore that message and go with the throwing toys from prams routine.

As much as I love GJ, a matter that could of been handled in two minutes turned into a major drama, there really was no need.

But that's ok, life goes on, that's the most important thing.

To GJ

OMG, that's pathetic, I can't believe you've taken your bat & ball home over something so trivial? I thought you were a good humoured easy going bloke who would just shrug it off, it's just the internet at the end of the day.

Could we please not go there, anyone is free to come and go from the site (unless you have been banned of course) as they wish, I still regard GJ as a close friend.

I think we should be free to go where the thread takes us (within the rules of the board of course).

I never said I didn't like him anymore [y]

I just can't believe he's been so petty, if you don't like it then I'm sorry but I won't retract what I've said.

Thanks for your explanation Pete,

Your well balanced views and management of his site is something that we, and expecially myself, applaud [y]

Time to draw the line under this regrettable event, I feel, and move one. I for one am very much looking forward to meeting my V-Flyer friends, new and old (members and mods) on Friday for a Ruby Murray and celebrating a new year.

I never saw this post you made before mine, you then told me not to go there but yet you've done the same yourself [?]
