It's a joke, even this morning the weather people are only talking a snow event in Wales & south-west...they're mentioning a 'dusting' here in the south-east! My car is abandoned, Steve's stuck in 'snow on inch thick ice' blocking the road and....yes Scrooge...Gatwick is sc****d!!

Good luck everyone impacted by the white stuff!

I am sat in Revivals after waiting an eternity for the bags. Seems many of the LGW flights have been diverted to LHR. What a nightmare for all of those wanting to get home or get away.

Thanks,
Sarah

How can LHR be operating (relatively) normally, but LGW be shut?!

you have to have a lot of sympathy for some poor bugger trying to sort this mess out- planes everywhere but where they should be

Once again it seems Sussex (Gatwick) has had much more of a snow dumping than around Heathrow area. Here in Mid-Sussex nearly all trains are cancelled, roads blocked...we're just not able to go anywhere.

I'm currently sitting in a restaurant in LGW South Terminal waiting for a flight to Calgary and watching the snow fall.. the runway is still being ploughed, fingers crossed we can get away today!

I think everyone needs to calm down a little. I now live in Geneva, the home of snow, and as I type Geneva airport is currently closed and it was shut for 6 hours on Sunday.

So if in a country where they are more than prepared for snow an airport can close I am not surprised Gatwick can close too.

All our LGW flights today are either cancelled (VS 28 / ANU), will operate from LHR (BGI and LAS) or delayed overnight (HAV).
What a nightmare, we still haven't recovered from the closure last week. So relieved I'm not flying again until the end of the month.
At least all our flight diverted into LHR or STN this time and not MAN and Birmingham.

VB, what happens to the LAS/BGI pax, who stayed over in a LGW hotel last night for their flight today. Do they get bussed to LHR?

As individuals disruption to our plans is never welcome; we're off to Lanzarote next week, from East Mids, and hoping our flights will be okay.

But then you read about the quake in Haiti and things don't seem so important.

As true as this is most people don't see the bigger picture. [V]

It's been snowing here in Manchester all morning, nothing too heavy though and it's due to get warmer and rainy at the weekend (YAY!)

The area around Gatwick has had heavy snow but to shut the runway for so long?

Looks like they've extended the closure >> 'Updated at 13.40: Following continued snowfall the runway at Gatwick Airport is currently closed for snow clearance and is expected to remain closed until 16.00'

Well I used to live in Manchester, and I remember May 1981 being snowed on as I tried to repair my car!
