Thinking about a May jaunt to San Francisco (about 10 days).

Any recommends about visiting/staying at Yosemite?

I am sure Dean can give you some information on where he looked to book the lodge we stayed at last year as we had a fantastic log cabin in Yosemite but you may decide you want to camp to really be part of it all. Have you thoughts either way?. I would definitely book in advance, either way.

My main take-aways were that Yosemite was huge, it will take a few days to do justice to the park and even if your accomodation is in Yosemite you can still find yourself with a 40 minute drive to where you want to go. Definitely do it though, I really enjoyed the park.

Thanks,
Sarah

My favourite subject again [:)]

Unfortunately Yosemite in park Food/Accommodation is sewn up by Delaware North Companies and rooms can vary from basic to luxury - have a look here http://www.yosemitepark.com/Files/09073 ... -13-09.pdf

We prefer to pick a 'River View King Spa' room at the Yosemite View Lodge just outside the park itself in El Portal. The lodge is quite basic but perfectly adequate and the adjoining restaurant is more then sufficient for us.

Just pick a price/level of accommodation that you are comfortable with, regardless of where you stay the Sunday Brunch at the Ahwahnee comes highly recommended.

Whenever you are going get a copy of Michael Fryes photographers guide to Yosemite
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Photographers-G ... 930238002/
You don't need to be a photographer to get the most out of his amazing vision, but if you follow the guide and its timings you will probably find yourself at some of the icons at their most photogenic. If it looks good to the camera it will look good to the eye too!

I have been quite a few times now but I will never tire of returning, Standing at 'Tunnel View' you always hear the same word over and over as visitors take their first view - 'Wow'

As far as timing goes the last few days in may or the first couple of days in June are traditionally the opening time for the Tioga pass road and until this is open the upper reaches of the park are a lot less accessible. The upper areas of the park by Tuolumne Meadows a wonderful area to visit despite not having the massive formations of the valley.

If you have timed it right then dont dismiss going through the pass. This trip gives access to the spectacular Mono Lake, North to Bodie Ghost town or South to Mammoth/June lake loop/Lone Pine and eventually my other favourite of Death valley.

It would be so easy to fill this thread with images of Yosemite and the Eastern Sierras [:D]

Hope this helps

Hi Stevebrass, we also plan on 'doing' Yosemite but about the 3rd week in June as we are adding it on to our 'Grand Road Trip'. Rather than start my own thread do you mind if I drop in with some of my own questions occasionaly?
