Just researching ways to get two / four TP's to retain status. If we do next flight Upper both ways will only need two.

While searching the net I found out that if you have the US Virgin Amex card you can earn 1 tier point per $2,500 spend (max two per month). Which would be a excellent way of achieving those two TP's (business expenses are a wonderful thing.

Bit annoying that this doesn't apply to the UK card. Or how about trade in unused companion tickets for a TP or two!

Flight is your only option, so I guess it depends on how low a travel class you are willing to go to. Some okay deals for PE in the current sale?

Yeah, just searching for best option flight. BMI site is a bit pants in helping to work out which flights you can do business on.

Its also a time issue, don't want to go away for very long if don't need to.

A long time ago I needed two TPs and flew to Edinburgh on BMI for lunch. I thought about Brussels too.

According to Business Traveller, BMI are doing away with Business Class on short haul flights.

With regards to TPs for credit card spend, I would prefer that frequent flier perks are reserved for frequent fliers.

What would be a a good idea, is to copy some hotel programmes and introduce 'roll over' points - that way, if your annual flying varies, you can start earning next year's requalifaction, once you have the necessary points this year.

If only I had gone out to NYC in upper in Novermber I wouldn't have had this problem. There was me trying to save money.

I really don't want to take another Holiday. Will be away beginning of March and in May.

One option that presents me is that my brother wants him and I to go to Dubai, flying from Birmingham, possibly in March. Whilst this is more conveient it wouldn't earn me any TP's. Looked at single fairs LHR - DXB (VS) and DXB - BHX (EK) so I could be anti social on the outbound and join him on the return, which in all fairness is far more convient for me too. I don't want to drag him down to LHR either as he lives so near to BHX.

Clearly single uppers are so expensive. Can I book an Z out and Y back and not use the return but still earn the TP's for the outbound?

This would keep everybody happy and still earn me the required TP's.

Won't it cost more to book 2 way one tickets to Dubai? I assume flying 2 different carriers will require you to book one way fares, so that would probably end up costing you way more than you will want to pay.

2 tier points? Bmi flight somewhere, either in business or the flex Economy fares that book into Y. Might be easier to call up and get them to look for you (you want to book into YBMI for full flex Economy that earns tier points). I have taken a number of flights to AMS and got a TP each way on Bmi (though sadly that route stops on 28th March otherwise that would have been ideal).

Generally fares are around 280-450 for a Bmi flex/biz return (AMS in Feb is coming out at 450) and you can do it as a costly day trip. Otherwise, book an L somewhere and upgrade, but that does mean more time away. They are really the best choices I can think of. Want company on a day trip to AMS before the route ends? We can go to Anne Franks house? :)

Thanks,
Sarah

Sorted, both doing Dubai from London as VS Y fare is much cheaper than EK from Birmingham.

Ah, that makes more sense, but still, Y back [:0] Is it booked in an upgradable fare code?

It's a day flight so not bothered. Only really need the suites on 8+ hours or overnight.
AND I don't want my brother to think I've completely lost grip with reality [:)]
