Easyjet Carry-on Luggage - Policed?

Can anyone tell me if they know whether Easyjet police the carry-on baggage in terms of dimensions; their website says max size is 22x17.7x9.8 inches, and I want to try and determine whether or Easyjet actually enforce those max dimensions, or whether its for guidance.

I have an overnight stay in Madrid coming up (needs to be cheap), but would prefer not to have to pack everything into such a tight space (inc laptop) versus paying at least 18 GBP to check in a suitcase...

Last time I flew EZ was a few years ago.

Policed is perhaps the wrong word. Enforced with a zeal that parking attendants can only dream of is more suitable. Everything in the frame and my hold bag was half a pound over - no leeway there either.

Even a laptop will fit in the back pocket of one of these.
Much easier than carrying a second bag, not weighed or measured and easily stowed in the overhead.

I find this version most comfortable.

Easyjet (and other LCC's) are incentivised in a way that full service airlines (BA/VS etc) aren't around hand-luggage. They'll actively seek out revenue-gaining opps with passengers who have bags even a little too big.

I have never had a problem - weight isn't really an issue but the size is.

In two years of travelling with Easyjet every week I have never seen the check in agents or gate staff police the size or weight of hand luggage. They do, however, insist on only one piece of hand luggage. I have seen BAA security check size and weight at the point at which you show your boarding pass when entering the security area.

Easyjet do not worry about the weight of the bag, more about the size and how many pieces you have. They say that as long as you can lift it yourself into the overhead lockers then you can carry it onboard. If you do online check-in, they will look at the size of your bag when you arrive at the gate.

I took my small wheely case onboard no problem. However I did see them at the gate asking people to place handbags/duty free bags into their main bag so each person only took one bag onboard and nothing extra.

Another point to remember is that everyone tries to take hand baggage so get onboard as quick as possible to make sure that you have space overhead for your bags - I was one of the first to board my flight so had no problems but watched about the last 20 people onboard struggling to find any room at all.

Whenever I've checked in online and only have carry on baggage I've never been stopped. I think most of the hand baggage checking is done at the check in desks. However with the arlines struggling they may have stepped up their checks to get as they want to get as much money from us as possible.

At Gatwick, they are strictly enforcing the rules at the gate.
