Saw some self appointed privacy 'watchdog' on the news this morning spouting a load of guff re invasion of privacy, another nail in our liberty etc etc
He didn't help himself by getting various stats and procedures wrong - neither related to airline safety btw.
BUT the 'ordinary' people they interviweed were all for the scanners if it was for safety and had no problems with allowing their children to be scanned. Some did say it was important that the images should not be stored etc but were happy with the assurances given.

Best security move ever was my colleague's bag being checked on the 3:02 and being flown to SFO without him on the flight - I thought that was a major no-no.
My best security measure was flying back from LA a couple of years ago. when my hand lugage was xrayed security opened it up and took out the letter opener I had bought as a gift for my sister. How it got in my hand lugage remains a mystery to this day coz I can still remember putting it in my hold bag. Anyway this conversation took place
him 'what's this'
me'a letter opener'
him'I see, as it's a letter opener you may take it through'
( think it would have been a different answer if I'd said 'a paper-knife'[:w])
Because I was then alerted to the fact I'd got this paper-knife, whoops sorry letter-opener, in my bag I felt realy nervouse all the way home, right up to picking up our car at heathrow. I was so jittery I'm amazed I wasn't picked out for 'special treatment' by security guy's and the customs guys too.

I assume the passenger in that story must have been one of your leprechauns! If that's a pea sized gun, it's in a pea sized hand!
Interesting the same reporter talks of a suitcase stuffed with explosives - if I remember correctly it was a 100gram sample!
So maybe a leprechaun's suitcase...

I can't understand why they chose to show that picture in the website. On the paper they had a photograph of the charm against a five cent coin (which is 2cm in diameter) and it was about the same size.
