As above, also can't fault this hotel. Had a nice harbour view room there.

The only thing was the treck up the hill from the train station to the hotel carrying bags nearly killed me!!! It's quite a steep hill.

I hated it! I found the service weak and poor. I had to go after the wait staff to get served on the two occasions I ate there. I found the staff casual and uncaring and since I had just come from the Shangri-La in Singapore, the contrast was cruel

I'm with you HL, and I found the rooms just a tad dated and there are some really strange people who hang around the bar. My Intercontinental experience was much better, also stayed at the Four Seasons and while the location is much better, it too is a bit tired.

Great Teriyake restaurant next door though!

I am with you both there - checked out after my first night - hated everything about it - dated, bad service, tatty suite and a strange smell lingering in the corridors. Booked into the Intercontinental and loved it - had a great suite with fab views of both the bridge and the opera house (and the QE2 sailed in while I was there) and the service was what I expect from a hotel of that category.

We stayed at the Westin back in November, usual Westin standards, rooms very modern and extensive amenities. Location is CBD, but less than 10 min walk to harbours- We were more than happy with location makes it easy to radiate out on foot to different areas, and we had mini nh in tow- we'd stay there again.. Depends if you want to pay over the odds for a view..

Thanks all. What to do ?[:?] I've got a good (cancellable) rate and I did really want a water view this time. We stayed in a 2 bed appt at Mantra 2 Bond St last time and whilst it was lovely there was no view as such.
I'll leave the booking as it is until I find something better.

I stated here in 2005 in a Horizon Club suite, so not at all recent.

Have to say that I wasn't smitten with the hotel but much of my opinion was clouded by a few small incidents, one of which being that I sent a load of laundry to the hotel and they had put these 'iron on' labels into all of my clothes to identify them in the laundry. I had several pieces come back burnt or ruined and spent several hours removing these tags from various tops and bottoms - not amused was I, especially as the numbering on these tags had transferred themselves to several white tops, even after removal of said tag and several washes. Otherwise the hotel was 'okay' but not what I had expected from a premium hotel.

I hear good things about the Intercontinental and the Four Seasons, I would suggest you look at the prices you are getting for similar hotels. I stayed here because it was coming out at a very good rate and while hte room was clean and I had no major gripes I feel that I could have found better for my dollars.

Thanks,
Sarah
