I find it interesting that people will be selected and if they refuse the scan they will not get to fly.

Good for them for taking a stand like that, yes I agree it is not the greatest thing in the world, but you know what, it really is a small price to pay.

I say we should have profiling alongside this and sod peoples feelings and human rights. This is peoples safety we're talking about and that's far more important than feelings.
Been done before on here I'm sure though!

I agree daywalker, I was just trying to say it in a diplomatic way! If 80 year old couples are regularly getting picked out for these scans, are we really any safer?

On a side note, does anyone know how long it takes to pass through a body scanner? Could it become compulsary for every passenger in the future to pass through or would it take too long to do this?

Very quick in my experience.
They have made it compulsory for every pax in Moscow.
It was only slightly slower than the normal magnetic gate but there were so few 'false' alarms that the overall speed was faster.

The quicker they are introduced here the better IMHO.
Not for an increase in security - for a much easier and less invasive process.

Overall these scanners should be quicker as nothing needs to be removed first (coats, shoes, watches, belts etc).

Ahh it was on here, not sure why I didn't join in at the time, I must've been in a rare chilled out mood or the topic had gotten to too many pages [:p]
