Hi Guys,

I'm travelling in UC soon, on an A346-600 and am looking to reserve me seats.

I have read verious reports and looked on the seatguru websites etc, so I know about the baby cot seat, and proximity to the bar and toilets etc, but I was wondering about meals.

What order are peoples orders taken? Front to back? Back to front? One side first etc? The flight looks full so I don't want to miss out on my choices.

Also, when ordering food, do you get it at a certain time? Or can you choose to have it whenever you like?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer.

On the A346 meal orders are done from front 2 back, with one CC doing the A seats, one doing the K seats, and one doing both sides of the middle seats.

Yes, you can ask to have your food at a certain point in the flight, you don't have to have it with the rest of the cabin, just ask your CC member when you are giving your food order.

Thanks for the info.

So How do they deal with the situation of them running out of certain things if 3 people are taking the orders? I expect it's best to be sitting towards the front then, maybe 4/5

Depends on your status too - I would expect if you are a Gold FC or higher you will get your choice regardless of where you are sitting. I wouldnt worry too much about it - I may be wrong but dont think it is too much of an issue in Upper as Virgin overcater in the cabin.

Ok, I'd just read a few reviews with people saying that they didn;t get there choice, and I didn't want to take any chances. It's a pretty special trip so I wanted to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible.

We were row 9/10 on our last flight and the CC member asked if we had another option as a lot of people on his side were ordering the same thing. We just politely said no and we got what we asked for.

It was mentioned in another thread recently that the CC do often ask the friendlier faces in the cabin first if they don't have enough, so a good tip would be to look grumpy! I can give you help with that if it doesn't come naturally to you...... Lol

I'll see what seats are available then, nearer the front as I have 11/12K at present.

Pete, I can't PM you as I need a valid membership[:?] but spencer will do[y]

I must be way too friendly - didn't get my first choice on either my outbound or inbound legs of my only UC trip so far. Not sure that opting for more wine and brandy as my second choice was wise though.

I'm learning though and will adopt the Neil approach in the summer..or just start adopting the demeanour my work colleagues tell me is my norm...

Catering provide VS with a mix of the meal choices based on how popular the meals are percieved to be (and also to cost I believe). There are times when it goes wrong and I have been on several flights where I have not had my first meal choice.

When the crew come round to take your order just tell them what you would like but can you have it later on. They'll put your meal aside for you, stock permitting of course. The crew are supposed to prioritise FC members (Gold then Silver then Red) for meal choices. Try not to take it out on the crew if you do not get your meal choice as they do not load the meals but do tell the FSM (black shirt) so she can write it up in her report.

Have a great flight [y]

Thanks,
Sarah

To answer your question, it makes no difference where you sit in the cabin as to whether or not you will get your meal choice.

Once all orders have been taken, we will know if we are over/under with certain meal choices.

If we have too many orders for one meal choice then we look at the passenger list. We then look at everyones Flying Club status and prioritise by status as HighFlyer mentioned. If you have no FF status then you will probably be asked to choose another meal choice.

A gold card holder even if they are sat in the back row of Upper will get their first meal choice 99.9% of the time - I say that only as I was once on a flight where half the cabin were Gold Card holders. Whereas if have no status, even if you are sat in the first row, you will still be the first person asked to make another choice.

Does KrisFlyer PPS, Gold or Silver factor in?

Generally only VS Gold / Silver / Red.

Even though other frequent flyer numbers show up on the passenger list, we do not know what level they are within that program.

If you're flying on a G but have Au status, does your Au status show up on the passenger manifest? I don't know if this has changed, but the FC number on the boarding card shows up (or at least used to show up) with a bunch of 5's and 0's as I remember rather than your FC number.

Cheers, H

It still showed like that when we flew in November, so not sure how the CC would know what FC status you hold.

Some mileage/ticketing systems (eg *A) have two FF fields, FAPP one is FF# for benefits purposes, vs FF# for accrual purposes. This is so that once you've accrued 1K status on UA, say, you can start accruing mileage and higher status on another airline, AC, LH, whatever, while at the same time enjoying the benefits of your UA higher status. Quite clever. Not sure whether VS has the same, doubtful as they aren't in an alliance, but it would help address any issue with receiving proper benefits when on a G.
