I'm think about switching to a Virgin Atlantic Bank of America Credit Card...

1. Those of you who have them, what has your experience been?

2. Why should I choose the Black over the White?

3. I understand the card is an America Express card. I'm currently using a Visa. Will some merchants not take my VS card?

4. Is there a better, non-VS card (or more flexible) to earning Flying Club miles?

i have the Amex black here in the uk , the annual charge is 115 but you get 2 miles per pound against 1 on the white. for me this is well worth it as i use it for business A LOT. During the special offer i racked up over 100k miles. i reckon to get between 4 and 6 free flights a year with 2 upgrades from EC to PE. just wish it earned tier points as well/instead.

[:?] Just to clarify;
'Free flights' + Taxes,Surcharges,Fuel Charges etc etc
'2 Upgrades', Upgrade valid for economy seat bought with miles, then subject to availability in PE+ associated Taxes etc..

Would imagine VS offerings would be similar to the below;
UK virgin card T's&C's

Kleiner, None of the Reward flights are 'free' and be wary about an offer of companion fares (if your US card promotes this), you will see numerous threads on here about them, basically, except in rare circumstances- the fare you need to use to qualify, makes them uneconomic. A cheeky marketing ploy.

Yes outside the US, many, many places don't except AmEx cards, so I'd always have a Visa/mastercard backup.

Many affilation cards (although 99% are Amex) have the ability to swap points to VS, however if its VS you are after specifically, and need the miles, the Black VS is hard to beat.

yes to be fair i could have worded that better , i still get enough miles for 4-6 REWARD flights and on at leasts 2 get the upgrade to PE (so only use EC miles). the companion ticket isnt worth diddly as the full fare is usually twice the discounted one.

Still IMO one of the better reward schemes my LGW-MCO PE in May cost 70k miles + 490 + 2 upgrades. Paying the listed fare would have been close to 2 grand
