As mentioned in this thread, the new A330 is going to get an updated UCS. What would you like to see added, changed or removed?*

For me:

Thicker mattress
USB charging and input for external devices
Better light.

The return of IFBT's is the number one for me.

For me it would be...

BA style J seats, one touch go flat with no need to jump out of your seat! [y]

So annoying when you're dozing after a meal and then have to get up and turn the seat over, I'm usually wide awake after that!

Better positioned and larger drinks tray.
Thicker mattress wouldn't be a bad thing
More/larger storage

I think any improvement on the UCS will take into account some of the changes that NZ have introduced or be very similar to the new NZ seat. After all both had the exact same UCS installed so many of the 'complaints' about the UCS will be the same at both carriers.

First & foremost - the mattress.
In many ways ANZ have shown the way - VS needs to be at least equivalent and preferable should try to regain their place as market leader.
More storage that can be reached from the seat rather than just the overhead bins.
An improved toilet more conducive to changing - or even better a changing area!
Either easy-clean surfaces throughout - or a cheap mechanism whereby surfaces can be replaced when they look/become tired and grubby.

A USB port along with a normal UK/US power socket.

I do like the BA seat for the ability to put it in the Z position, much more comfortable than the VS seating positions.

Better light and drinks table.
USB port.
More accessible storage space.
Quieter mechanics for the seat (the noise really grates on me).
Thicker mattress topper (with two pillows per passenger please).
A table with a better mechanism which doesn't jam/stick frequently.

USB port will be a given, VS have already announced the new IFE on the 330 will have a USB port in all classes.

Thicker, softer mattress.
More storage space.
Arm rests where you arms actually are.

More easily accessed storage space
Bigger bathrooms that don't get flooded with space to change
Slightly wider suite
Seat to recline more

Softer mattress
Better Loo, to be fair they are 'minging' & too small for a premium cabin given what the competition are offering.
Reading light position
1.5' longer/ wider bed....

A pen on a chain (aka bank counter style!!)

Ahh the loos, indeed they are too small and really, we should have a window in UC to pee all over the world!

All the comments back up my view that the UCS is still great, but it has flaws and could be better still. Yes I'd like to see 747 size suites on Airbuses ... but that probably won't happen, so here's my list:

- cocktail tray, needs moving somewhere sensible
- all tables should be able to move forward, as they do on some Airbii but not others, so you can exit with the table laid
- mattresses are desperately in need of improvement
- would like to see the screen fold toward you, from further to the front of the suite, than out and forward from next to you
- the light, oh the light, ick - and a replacement that shines down, not into faces in opposite suites
- tv controls should be able to be closed without then causing flickering and sound changes as the buttons push on the innards
- headphone jack in the perfect place
- standard UK / US / international power outlets, USB chargers etc.
- seat controls to be more accessible, no one likes fumbling around their thighs
- much larger magazine / storage, one you could slip a laptop into when meal tables are laid
- I like the idea of the leather clad table for working that BA offers in new First, much classier and better for optical mice
- a raised area for glasses / spectacles and stuff, by heads when in bed mode, so I don't keep knocking my water over or crumpling them

personally i think the seats could do with being a tiny bit wider and i think the whole food offering ought to be stepped up a notch. virgin food isnt much better than ba and being its their premium offering i think they ought to push the boat out a little to offer an additional USP in only the way that Virgin used to.

A light that won't cause a serious brain injury.

How about a consistent service in UCS, with staff that actually do want to be there and deliver great customer service?

Food that hasn't come from the local prison, and a better selection to choose from.

Brand new, clean PJs or a sleep-suit

A proper amenity kit that has a use outside the cabin, and not some two year old shoe bag design that wouldn't be out of place at Chernobyl.

Completely revamped food - Bangers & Mash is not even acceptable pub-grub now...[:$] (it's what I make if I'm have lots of bills in the month!)

Return of the IFBT.

Anything that would make Virgin Atlantic really unique and special again [:D]

Only really critical issues are

More storage - one narrow bin just isn't enough

Better and less dangerous lighting

Headphone sockets etc I can access

PS I like bangers and mash- still on our poshish pub menus up here in the Midlands!

out of interest is the UCS lighting dangerous? How comes?

It's the position.

It sticks out of the divider but doesn't have a lot of movement. It's very easy, especially at night, to sit up and bash yourself unconscious on it.

Given I have failed to even snooze on any UC flight due to discomfort, they definitely need to improve the mattress and supply at least two plump pillows - not one that is as flat as a witches you-know-what! [:(]

Can't say in all my trips I've ever done that! Each to their own I guess.
