Got a sudden surprise when looking at G's to Tokyo. A window pops up for 'live Chat' with Rep?

Oblige, as you do, how can we help?
Well I start;...blaa blaa blaa about calculating Fare codes in L & G availablity etc..to be told 'I can't do availability checks, fare costs etc...Only to guide you through the booking process'

Whats the point of that[?] Me thinks their time would be better spent manning the phones, as we are always told they are 'experiencing high call numbers..[:?]'

Sounds a bit like the Alfred Lanning hologram in the film of 'I, Robot'..

'I'm sorry. My responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.'

Can't see the point really - the person I 'chatted' to didn't seem to know anything I hadn't already worked out online. MUCH prefer talking to a real person rather than having to type everything I would otherwise speak[:(!]!

Think it is there to help those who aren't so net savvy. With more and more companies making you book online, it is meaning the 'older' generation and those not familiar with internet sites trying and failing to use them, Old Mother Hamlyn would be a prime example of the type of person the online chat help person is there for.

I do remember another V-Flyer mentioning it, and saying that they found it helpful, maybe you just got a not so 'with it' member of staff, which is something that is more than a possibility when calling up also.

I've used this quite a lot and found that the response varies vastly from person to person.

They are able to search for flights, and availability of reward seats for specific dates, and a couple have done so for me, but the willingness of the rep to do this vastly depends on who you speak to. Most just direct you to the website to check for yourself, or give you the number of the reservations desk.

A lot of the online chat agents are bots, the technology stemmed from the Adult SMS text business. I know someone who tested and built the AI for it.

I had a live chat pop up on a web site, and it kept saying 'Hello how can I help you' when I asked if it was a Bot !

I agree , if it can't answer your questions, it's just a waste of time.

I'm sure I'm probably older than Old Mother Hamlyn and may well be of a similar age as his Nan [:D]
