A colleague just submitted a missing miles claim for his Miles Plus Money flight. As she was doing it, I said it was pointless as MPM did not earn tier points and miles.

But apparently they do!

Is this common knowledge or just a weird, unique bug?

They shouldn't, at the bottom of the MPM page on the VS site, it clearly states MPM fares do not earn miles & TP's.

Maybe you should edit the title of this thread to more of a question, so it doesn't cause future confusion, as it would seem you friend has been lucky.

I think they do too - my sister and her husband recently went to JFK on one - PE to Upper and she said they got miles (so I assume TPs also)for the PE portion. As she collects them it was a bit of a Brucie bonus for them to turn up in her account.

You get miles and TP's if you upgrade from one cabin to another with miles (you get the miles and TP's on the original fare you bought). If you just buy a straight MPM fare, you don't get anything.

If she was upgrading, then that's not a Miles Plus Money fare, HG, those are nasty immutable little buggers, then MpM fares. What it sounds like your sibling had was a PE revenue ticket and a mile upgrade - for which you do get miles & tier points for the paid portion of the ticket (ie, in your sister's case, PE).

An update; another colleague has just said exactly the same thing and shown me his booking and the associated tier points.

It would appear to be a rather useful bug!

No I was right first time - just rang her. Her hubbies company treated them to a weekend flying PE - Linda (like her brother) does not fly W (or Y) so her hubbys PA booked them both a MPM and they got both got miles and TPs. [y]

I think it's because PE MPM are booked into the same fare code as VH discounted PE. When you try and claim missing miles the system thinks your on a qualifying fare and credits the miles/TP's even though the MPM T&C's say no.

Unless this is a change in policy I suspect this may be an error. Inkiboo - did they both submit claims? If so I guess its reasonably easy for staff to mistakenly credit what looks like a revenue flight but is in fact a non-earner.

Thanks,
Sarah

I have had a colleague claim miles and tier points for a MPM fare - he has done this twice...

They both filled out the missing miles section on virgin-atlantic.com and the miles/tier points were credited instantly.

If so, that's a useful loophole for those that use it ... best kept stum!
