For the last few months I have been eagerly anticipating my trip to South Africa with my sister and her son. The excitement in the three households has been mounting but these last couple of days it has been going a little bit pear-shaped.

For starters I can't find my Bose QC3s. They're in that safe place called NowwhereinthehelldidIputthem, which changes religiously after every trip.

I can't find my clip-on sunglasses. I've two pairs each of them also in NowwhereinthehelldidIputthem, but that's in a different location - or perhaps locations!

I can cope with all that. I've now invested in a third pair of clip-on sunglasses and no doubt the QCs will turn up when I am looking for something else (Don't ask about my specs which went missing at Aer John's 21st and turned up some ten weeks later :0 )

Disaster has struck once more. I have packed my beloved Samsonite complete with TSA combination locks which was one of my retirement gifts. I locked the case, spun the combination as per usual and then tested the lock and to my horror, it opened! :0 :0 . I have tried to reset it to no avail, but no, nothing works. The last time I used it was from GSO via EWR and I had a billet doux from TSA so it looks like they have messed it up right royally :(!

I could take a chance on it, I suppose but I have a connecting flight at JNB to DUR and do not fancy having an unlocked case there. The only solution as I see it is to use one of my own combination locks which I used before I had the Samsonite but........

.........yes, you've guessed it. I can't find them!!

eek !

maybe the cat is looking after them for you?

I too have a usual safe place for all travel related items but somehow it turned into two safe places with items randomly moving between them.

Now deep breath, large GnT and calm thought ...

Th one thing I really do manage to hold on to is my passport. I wish I could say the same for everything else :w

Never let these minor diversions detract from your attention from having a fab time in SA

Perhaps the sock on the stair might have an idea of where your QC 3s might be

Look in the least likely place first for the QC3s (it usually works for me :) ).Not much solace I know, but do Samsonite offer a service like Travelpro with regard to repairs? (might have to consider a cheap temporary replacement for the trip or does aerjohn have something you could borrow ?).
Let's hope for no more fried ipods en route either (when you eventually find the QC3s) :0 .
It will all turn out OK HL... :)

How can you lose your QC3s? Is your house the size of a palace?

Mind you, I'd be insane if I couldn't find mine.

I am sure it will all come together, stresses will fade, and before you know it, you'll be champered-up in the clubhouse and waiting to board!

Indeed it isn't but it has many nooks and crannies. I can't rule out the possibility they are in Dublin. Aer John had taken them and then returned them for my last long-haul trip. He says he doesn't have them but may well have taken them when he went there in January. Either that or I crammed them in somewhere when I was getting the house ready for his 21st/Christmas/God knows what else!!

I know exactly what you are going through. I lost my favourite sunglasses just before leaving for Sydney and ended up taking my spare pair. I spent the whole holiday moaning about it and then as I was unpacking back in London post trip I found them - I must have put them in a pocket when I got the suitcase out thinking it would prevent me forgetting them!!!

Have a wonderful trip, looking forward to seeing all the photos.

Hope that your QC3s turn up HL, we always put ours in the same place so I can find 'em but with other stuff that doesn't have a regular "home" I am forever loosing things! Didn't use to be like this when I was younger - oh well, makes life more interesting! LOL

I've had that panic just before a business trip - I couldn't find my driving license - that would have been a nightmare in the US, but eventually found it in the side pocket of a bag I never use ... [phew] :-)

Good luck with the QC3's

And now to add insult to injury the inbound flight is late, arriving at our departure time v(

.

Don't you have to pre-book to get miles? With just over 26 hours before departure that's just not possible.

There is some good news though. I managed to snag 12 A&K for my sister and myself. They opened up just after 3pm :D Haven't been able to snag 14 A or K for the nephew but he's in 15K so that's not too bad.
