Jus read than a Colombian MD-80 went down in the Northern part of Venezuela.

Link

152 PAX on board (a lot for an MD-80 I thought?)

EDIT: So that's 5 in a short time! AF A340, the ATP-72 off Italy, Helios 737-31S, BA ERJ-145 in Hannover yesterday and this one! Not a good month for air travel!

Also slightly different topic, but does anyone know anything about a fire outside the VS hanger at LHR last night? A friend arrived back last night and said there were a lot of fire engines etc over there by what looked like a parked plane and there were a lot more outside the airport too. Not read anything on that so not sure what was actually seen/happening.

Set up as two-class, the MD80 seats 144, the MD90 seats 152.

Yeah, I just found that, they are bigger than I thought! Another sad loss, although being from Colombia I guess the maintainence record could be questionable and I have no idea how old the plane is (not sure which airline).

Kryten,
This is right where the Fire Dept test rig is situated. You may have seen it. It is a bright green weird looking plane rig. They regularly set fire to it and then attempt rescues from it. I obviously can't be sure that this was what was going on the other night, but the location and description sound correct. As for more outside the airport I guess it would depend on the size of the test they where performing.

I asked them already if it was a big green plane and they said it was a shiny white one :D I presumed the same. I still think it was probably a test but they seem to think it was away from that test aircraft.
