Just been checking our booking for our upcoming BGI flights for about the 236th time (isn't OCD a wonderful thing?) and the they've changed the config. - yet again - from 4 back to 3, with all UC in t'bubble.

For some reason, the change has also freed up a load of seats that were previously unavailable so we've bagged 12A/K &14K on the way back, which is a good thing as they're our old faves. Might be worth checking your booking if you've been subject the same config. shift-about...

Out of curiosity, would I be correct in assuming that the only 747 that has the UC/Y split in the bubble is G-VFAB?

Not that downstairs is affected.

I'm still in 15A, but notice that rows 12 & 14 are now available.

Mark, how did you manage to bag 12A/K and 14 at this stage? On my recent JNB trips they were only released a couple of hours before OLCI opened

Edited to add: I've just checked my booking in light of the recent disappearances of bookings from the website only to find that the bulkhead seats which are normally greyed out are there in all their glory for anyone to choose

Yes, curiously all those seats that are normally blocked can be grabbed.

Let the rush begin...

Yup, managed to get 12/14 both ways now, which I'm rather pleased about. I feel as if the mdviponds have been restored to their family seat. As I say, when it comes to checking one's booking, ain't OCD a marvellous thing...?

Our SFO return now on an all UC upper deck config also, and have moved us to 12A/K, all very interesting.

Last I heard, J loads were returning to pre-recession levels.

I hope you are right mate!

My BGI flight as far in advance as September is back to a config 3 as well.

G-VFAB has just come back from a heavy check at AMS.
Have VS been reading our reaction to Y in the bubble?

Also been told the same, I read today that CO has posted traffic figures up 11% on last year transatlantic (from a low base, true) and BA also report premium traffic picking up.

If VS have stopped this refit, kudos to them, it was stupid to start with IMO.

If VS have responded to customer feedback and with an eye yo future market conditions, then all credit to them y)

Can only give us all the chance of grabbing a UC Sale Fare in the months to come ):

Just had a look at my Boston Flight in June, the Upper Deck has been changed back to the current configuration with all seating upstairs being UC.

Moving away from Y upstairs would be a definite boon for VS. I first noticed this a couple of weeks ago on a JFK flight, VS46, which had been switched from 747 to an A346. All seats opened, none reserved, so I put the parents up front in the snooze zone. What was perplexing was that only one seat was taken - it looked like they had blown away previous seat reservations. That's going to piss off a few people :)

On the 747 it's gone to a config 3, but none of the seats in the rear part of the cabin upstairs can be selected. So I am thinking they are just blocking all reservations upstairs, and defaulting to config 3, and if you are in config 4 Y seats will get released at check in? That would make sense.

The Y seats on the Upper Deck can only be released by the airport staff on the day of the flight.

All the rear UC upstairs on our SFO flight are also blocked out, but the usual blocked seats are available, like row 12. Interesting.

Just checked my September flight to BGI too and noticed all top deck now UC again and 12A/K all opened up too.

Any suggestions on the best seats. Not sure if best in nose or up top. ?|

I always preferred the nose/sect A anyway, but if this is being done as a "just in case", you might end up with a config 4 plane anyway in the end - as Tinkerbelle says they won't assign upper Y seats 'til the airport anyway, so who's to know? I'd go with zone A for sure.

We also prefer the A Zone, the space feels so much more, especially since the removal of the IFBT station.

Caveat Emptor - had reserved 12a/k and 14k for family members flying out next week, just went and had a look see and they've been kicked out of the seats, SOP resumed with usual seats grayed out, and rear section of the 747 upstairs cabin is now open for seat assignments. If anyone else has reserved 12a/k you might want to go check that your reservations still hold.

Just caught up with this thread and checked our SFO booking for the summer. It has reverted to the Config 3 (no Y in the bubble), retained our assignments and freed up 12K and 14K which were definitely not available before (and are now no longer available as I've snaffled them for one leg).
