A short weekend trip to Edinburgh which was booked a while ago for a '33 and a third' Irish birthday!

Being silver gives you the benefit of being able to select seats in advance - managed to bag row 1 on the outbound segment. Arrived at LHR on the underground, which for a change was working without any delays. The terminal was very quiet landside compared to previous trips. Having printed off my boarding card (sorry paper), it was time to drop bags off at the bag drop and then off to the fast track security. Again this was very quiet, and we were through very quickly. Headed off to the North Galleries lounge....guess what....this was quiet too! Noticed a note on the check-in desk about catering issues on domestic and short-haul flights. Didn't ask about i then, but did later in the lounge, and found out that there were some problems with the catering on certain flights although ours wasn't affected (not sure how you can have a problem with bird seed or cookies!).

Ordered the 'compulsory' champagne as soon as we got into the lounge. Settled down for the usual 'galleries food selection' of soup, salad and then curry and rice. All very tasty, but would be nice to have a change every now and then. After a pleasant time in the lounge, it was time to head off to the gate when it came up as boarding. When we got there, it was in the last stages of boarding which was nice not to have to wait too long.

Once on board, there was a slight delay as the catering hadn't been loaded.....actually I think that there was a problem with the plastic glasses/paper cups, as we overhead the crew saying that once they arrived, at least everyone could have a drink on the flight.

After a long taxi down to the other end of LHR, it was time to take off and head up to EDI. Drinks service commenced, and they have changed the white wine - now a Bordeaux rather than a chardonnay (a nice change) and a different sort of savory snack - less bird seed in nature.

A short flight up to Edinburgh, and then it was time to land and head off into Edinburgh.

All in all, a pleasant flight and a nice change in the wine option on board!

Thank you for the TR - makes my cheap and cheerful economy flights to EDI look very underwhelming!

That just cojured up an image in my mind of the kitchen staff at St. Trinians doing a bit of moonlighting and creating huge vats of the stuff to be shipped to the Galleries:D :D

Sounds a bit like the episode from Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy whena spaceship was put in stasis waiting for a delivery of moist lemon wipes!
