BA284 from SFO has been circling off the west coast of Ireland for nearly an hour now! I'm sure they have been very "generous" with fuel loads... Not sure they'll manage another hour and a half though!

Sky have confirmed that BA284 has been diverted to SNN and has now landed.

Sky now stating that Jet2.com are starting flights from AGP to the UK.

Adonis stating that all BA flights currently in the air will be allowed to land at LHR post 10pm.

just out of interest , these inbound ba flights , are they loaded?

Yes they are.

Very very glad to hear this. I'm sure that whoever has made this decision will now be praying very hard that nothing goes wrong. Lets hope it's come soon enough to stop companies going under, such as said company who I work for after a rather worrying letter I recieved this morning.

Response to CAA statement

NATS has received new direction from the UK’s safety regulator, the CAA, on applying restrictions to UK airspace following the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

As soon as revised accurate information is available from the MET Office on the location of the dense ash cloud, NATS will review airspace availability and provide an update to airline operators on any airspace that has been restricted for safety reasons. We will issue a further statement by 2200.

It could be due to problems with heavier than usual traffic, flightradar24 has cut back to callsigns only rather than flight details due to high numbers of users.

Yup, agree Bazz. NATS 'further statement at 22:00' seems a bit like the throes of a petulant child who's been told to share their toys.

Think a combination of political & commercial pressure have pushed the 'elf & safety boys into being a bit more pragmatic. As Big Willie said, there were something like 14,000 flights in Europe today alone (sounds like rather a lot!), underlining that there doesn't appear to be anything dropping out of the skies.

WW being very reasonable on this.

I dont see NATS having its nose put out of joint. It's working within the rules set by its statutory regulator. The regulator changes the rules so NATS can change accordingly.

I would imagine that due to security reasons the actually radar we have been watching is somewhat delayed. Certainly on Flightaware.com the radar is delayed.

I'm on flightradar24.com, and there's a race between the BA086 from Vancouver and the BA2036 from Orlando to be the first flight to London

http://www.radarvirtuel.com/# is usually only delayed by a minute or so.... BA284 is still circling by the looks of things...?

BA84 is in the lead, BA036 from MCO, BA282 from LAX, BA154 from BGI and others are around Lands End waiting to come in.

BA84 from Vancouver is heading for LHR, BA36 from Orlando is heading to LGW, could be a race to land first after 10pm.

Another four flights stopped at Shannon to refuel and are leaving around now, and some more over Paris too. I shall look out of my window, I've missed the big birds!

I know it's tough but VS need to get up to speed quickly. BA are running full long haul service from LHR and LGW tomorrow but VS still nothing annouced. Surely they should have thing ready to go as soon as any opening was announced.

Check the Status Update page - a whole load of updates in the last 20 minutes (UT time one hour behind BST).
