I've tried searching the forum for the answer to this question, but haven't found it.

I'm expecting to make AU status this year, and want to give my Supplementary Silver Account to my wife. What happens to her existing tier points? Does she keep them towards AU status after she gets the SSA, so if she has 10 TPs now, will she be up to 25 after the SSA?..and what happens if she is already Silver by the time I can give her the SSA?

The SSA doesn't get credited any additional Tier Points, they just get Silver as a minimum regardless of points earnt.

A supplementary question, and I must admit I've forgotten the answer as it was some years ago my SSA became an SSA, is whether their account 'resets' when they turn Silver; so they certain won't be credited any extra TPs, and I'm not sure whether they get to keep any existing ones.

Interesting. I emailed Flying Club here in the States to see what they had to say, and they told me, "When applying for an existing member to become a Supplementary Silver Account (SSA) holder, we will enrol them as the Supplementary Account holder and then merge their existing account with the new Supplementary Account. Hence the miles and tier points earned by the SSA as a Red member will be transferred under the new Silver membership."

So, looks OK, although I'm not sure if this covers the situation if they have already become Silver in their own right, before getting the Supplementary account, although I think I know a way around that to ensure she doesn't qualify first.

IIRC the account just turns Ag - no impact on existing TP's

If they are to become Ag anyway could you give the SSA to someone else?

Seems no point if they will achieve Ag in their own right.

If they get to keep their 15 tier points already gained this year to become Silver, then get given the SSA too, they will be 15 points closer to Au status, so will only need a max of 10 more points for Gold - right?

SSA needs to live at same address as Au card holder, so the choices are limited

Even if the SSA is going to hit Ag in their own right, there is the (very useful) extra benefit of being able to spend miles out their account too, so none of the normal restriction of having to have enough for a complete leg of the journey.

Unfortunately not - they do not get given the 15 TP's to become Ag. Their FC number just changes to reflect new status and of course get a new card.
