Checked Luggage allowance

I'm travelling UC into the US then taking a flight with United in economy-plus a couple of week later into another state. I have been told that when I check in on the UA flight to show my UC boarding card and I will be allowed the same checked luggage(3 bags of 32kg) allowance free of charge.

Can anyone confirm this information is correct as I've looked on the UA website but haven't found anything stating this.

A couple of weeks later? No it isn't correct to the best of my knowledge. If they were ticketed on the same PNR as connecting flights then it would be.

In my experience of traveling United and VS on the same ticket, this is not the case.

While I mainly traveled in Virgin PE, as a Gold Member I had extra luggage allowance with VS, that United referred to their terms when checking in luggage.

They on one occasion had be remove 2kgs out of my checked baggage to make it meet their 50lbs weight.

Depending on your United ticketed allowance and any Star Alliance status, your Virgin ticket will probably not influence their decision.

Star Alliance Gold status gives 3 checked bags. If you are not at this level, the likely charges are for a second and third bag, and try to keep into the weight allowance they have, which is 23kgs.

I suggest you give UA a call to get chapter and verse on this though I can't see them giving you the VS UC allowances - especially as your UA flight is not for a couple of weeks later. It might have been different if your UA flight was a connection from VS.

I'd also ask them about the charges they would make for the extra bags / weight. It could be cheaper to arrange this in advance rather than at the airport.

Mine were always on the same PNR, the bags were interlined, but I had to comply with UA's rules not Virgins .

UA in the UK confirm your thoughts! It was UA customer services in the US that actually told me I have allowances as per my international flight status!!!

UA in the UK said I could try showing my boarding card/VS ticket at check in - but I think I'll just reduce my baggage a little

There is a difference, that used to come into play, with a connecting flight to an international service.

If you are travelling domestically, you were only entitled to 1 bag, but if you were connecting to an international flight, you could have 2 FOC. Other passengers used to get a bit miffed when they had to pay an extra $50/$100 and I was getting them for free.

However, this all had to happen on the same day.

If as you say, you have a gap between the flights, then normal UA rules will apply. Excess charges for additional bags and weights will come into play.

I shall be having the same problem when I fly out to SFO (UC) and then 3 days later onto Colorado with UA!

The carry-on baggage is quite reasonable at 18kg plus one personal item i.e. laptop bag, purse or briefcase.

I am a bit miffed with UA - they have changed my flights bookings 3 times since I originally booked last Sept. They didn't even let me know this had happened. It was just by chance that I checked the status of my flight after I had read of the problems UA were having. My flight status showed that the flight times had changed and could I phone them to arrange new flight times!
