When your FC status changes from Ag to Au (or the other way round) do you have to advise the VS credit card issuer to ensure your miles are correctly transferred or is this done automatically by VS?

No, whilst you will get a new FC number, your old account number is still linked to your account so any miles will still be automatically posted to your account. I have never told MBNA when I change to Ag from red and every has been fine.

It may be that you do need to alert MBNA of status changes.

I took out a White card just after they began when I was FC Red. Later that year I became FC Silver and the link happend automatically. Having spent 18 months spending all my miles and companion tickets, I've fallen back to FC Red.

Now, MBNA tell me that the link for miles from their credit card does not work in this situation.

They also tell me that if you take out a second card (i.e the Black one), then the system will not accept a different FC number to the first card.

I have changed a few times both up and down the FC status list and my miles have always followed me.

Not sure quite what you mean about getting a black card. Surely if you get a black card, which is a total different account to the white card, they would both only be linked to your FC account number (which is in the T&C's). You couldn't have the black card go in to a partners FC account, if the card is in your name.
