When you confirm. Am 99% sure of this.

There could well be a small deposit charge payable when you hold them although I doubt it.

They will give you a price when you call and hold the flights. You will pay that price when you call back to actually book it not a new or difference price.

They basically create a dummy booking for you, you get a proper booking reference number.

About what?

If you call today and the price is £1000, you ask them to hold the flight for 24hrs, they will give you a booking ref.

You call back tomorrow night, but the price has gone up to £1500 during the day. You give them your booking ref and you pay the £1000 you were quoted today.

One thing that might change is the taxes by a few pounds if you hold on a Tuesday and pay on a Wednesday as the excange rates that are used to calculate all the airport taxes change once a week on a Wednesday morning.
The fare is guaranteed but the tax part might fluctuate a touch.

Just a small caveat to the above info. Telephoned to hold the flights last night around 8.00pm, but as yesterday was the last day for the "apex" fares, computer would only along them to be held until 11.45pm at that price.

(Guess there is a glitch or the ash problem has caused a few issues this morning as the prices are horrendous or non exsistent for the surrounding days that we were looking at)
