I am traveling to Sydney for a conference on Thursday (ash-cloud permitting), with stop-overs in Hong Kong in either direction. For conference I must carry A0 size posters which are both sitting inside a poster tube, which because of the size of the posters looks a bit big at about 40 inches long. It is pretty light and harmless.

But, the big question is, will Virgin permit me to take the poster tube on board? I will have a stroller bag as a carry on, with some items in it that I'd rather not check-in. Flying economy means that I am stuck with a single check-in bag as well.

Would appreciate some feedback.

Through personal experiances of passengers with poster tubes they've usually been allowed on board. Usually with just a quick check at check-in to a supervisor or whatnot to see if there's room regarding the number of passengers on board and if security will let it through.
Personally I'd give VS a quick ring maybe to double check (unless someone has some more insider knowledge than me!) or ask/double check when you get to check-in.

Normally I would give them a call, but being in Germany till I leave, I cannot get through to their 0844 numbers. I will also check with my team assistant tomorrow if the package can be couriered to my conference location as this would make things quite easy.

I took an A1 poster on board with me to Orlando with no problems and an A0 tube isn't that much bigger so I wouldn't worry too much.

Try this website http://www.saynoto0870.com I had a similar difficulty in needing to contact VS in Oz after the Sydney office had closed and this website was a lifesaver

I have taken posters of this size on board, as well as a wrapped 4WD Snorkle part.

You should have less trouble if you are flying in Upper/

I wish I was flying Upper, but unfortunately this trip is sponsored by IEEE and they show no such mercy to students. I am stuck with Economy, but I think I am going to risk it with the tube in any case. If it becomes too much of an issue, I'll check it in or just discard it and try to find a place to print my posters in Sydney upon arrival.

Thanks to all for answering!! I really appreciate all your responses.
